Old Salvage yard in Illinois (pictures)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by petritl, Mar 5, 2007.

  1. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Scenes like this will be ancient history very soon. I have to admit myself I could spend an entire day or more in this yard! What I really think is icing on the cake is to look inside the cars to find other relics.Lots of really cool old stuff in glove boxes, under seats, and in trunks.

No, no... take a second look! The taillights are -55 Dodge, that is right, but the car is not a Dodge. To me it looks like a tastefully customized -54 Chevy 210. What a pity that it has ended up in the junkyard.

To me all the cars looks restoreable, its just a matter of time and dedication...

  3. I'm pretty sure I know where this is, the guy has been buying stuff for years. He was bidding against me on some stuff at an auction a while back and bought a 51 Merc 4 dr that was down in the mud for $50. Of course I figured the motor was out of it since all the flathead stuff was sold seperately...needless to say I was pissed when I found ou the motor was still there!

  12. It is a neat old place, actually one guys collection of old tin. He bought the place with a lot of the cars there already from what I understand. Unfortunately a lot of them have been there for a long time and there isn't much left of most of the cars. It's a shame.

The only way I can see the pix is to right click each one and select view image. After it opens the "bandwidth" icon, then hit reload. It might take all night to see them all..........

pm me with info, I just moved back to illinois, Peoria actually, and Im looking to start collecting some tin. I have a few leads on yards north of here. My father got to know a few guys with yards that have been closed for years and he's been granted access, could be an exciting spring. maybe I can help you wrench until I get a garage set up.

That means too many people have been viewing your pics.
This can happen pretty easy posting a lot of photo's on a busy forum.
Next time you could try and create a thumbnail-page. This can be done from your Photobucket-account.

....I was lucky enuf to see ALL those pics early in the morning before they went off, LOTS of pics. Looks like a very neat place to visit even tho that stuff is pretty rough. Still, you don't find stuff like this to check out around here much anymore; I'm sure it won't be around forever. Spring is rite around the corner; time for a roadtrip!

I'm reposting to see if anyone has any interest in any of the cars. These pictures are obviously a couple of years old but most of the cars are still in there. If anyone is interested PM me I will give you the contact information to the owner of the yard.

Please refrain from enlarging the pictures the last time I posted the my Photobucket account was suspended for using too much bandwidth.

I will talk to Gus about going back out there for updated pictures soon ( after weeds die off)

I have been to that yard! I distinctly remember the 54 chevy with dodge taillights. It may have been salvagable back then,at least 25 years ago, but look at it now! I am always on the lookout for old customs. I bet the ford shoebox coupe with louvers, pontiac grill and buick taillighs was not there at that point, or I would have spotted it. I lived in Washington from 84 to 98.
