I know a guy in the UK thats building a Honda CBR 1000cc engine into a space framed mini shell, RWD, all done from scratch himself, all the machining etc. He has a home built computer controlled CNC mill!

What's the little piece of Euro junk chain driven?

Sounds pretty nice though... Didn't some of them have little superchargers are them?

I would have never thought these microcars would be popular on the HAMB! Guess after I get mine ready to sell, I'll list it here too!
I just bought it to sell it and make Model A project money anyways!:D

This thread is a bit O/T.

But the HAMB is the pinnacle of the hot rod mentality on the net. This is where the great minds of the hot rod world come to chew the fat.

We aren't talking stock micro cars here. We are talking about hot rodded micro cars. We are talking stuff that has began life as a relatively sedate and utilitarian object and been transormed through human ingenuity and seat of the pants engineering into something akin to a race car. I don't really see a difference between that Fiat 500 and a Model T that was hot rodded in 1950. The parts are different, but the soul is the same.

I believe that is what the HAMB is about.

I just wanted to share that vid of that Fiat with the Kawasaki engine in it. I figured that the guys and gals on the HAMB could appreciate it.

You got that right, stock these things get great gas mileage and are for going to the store. It takes alot of modification to get these to move. The nice thing is that the engines are tough and can take it. Italian laws favor engines with short strokes so most of these can rev to 7000 RPM stock. With heavier valve springs 9000 RPM is easy.

There was a guy named Carlo Abarth who would build these up for racing. His trademark was to double the horsepower on the cars he sold. This video is of the Abarth 131, which was built for rally racing and won in the late 70s, early 80s. These are 1995cc engines in these.

I like your at***ude about this. A hot car is nice to me no matter where it come from. I appreciate you posting that, it was cool to see. I know alot about SOHC Fiats, now I am here to learn about flathead Fords. I'm pretty sure I came to the right place.

PS: I like the art! Got any with Topolinos?

It took me a while, but I found a photo. of my Fiat 600 that ran 11:13 at 119mph. I chopped it 4" and in race trim it weighed in at just under 1000 pounds.

This photo was taken many moons ago as it has my son, hotrodvon sitting in it and he was just 10 at the time and he's getting ready for his 20yr HS reunion now.

And here are 2 race cars based on Fiat 500's.

The first one was built by Peter Day in England.
    A spaceframe ch***is with a 'gl*** body.
He ran a Ford BDA engine that was cut in half.

I tried to track this car down for a while, and found a couple of ex-owners.
A race car dealer in Scotland couldn't remember who he sold it to, so I never found it.

Second pic is another Spaceframe'd Racer.

I built that one for a buddy of mine.
He built a really special engine for it that was part Fiat, with a cut down Alfa Romeo cylinder head

The Topolino ( little mouse ), came before the 500 and 600
But the official name of the Topolino was 500A, B, or C...
The later 500 was the 500N for nuovo ( Italian for new )
All those cars were designed by Dante Giacosa ( he also did the slightly larger 850, and at least some design work on the Simca 1000)
These cars were really well designed for their time ( and price ), and were also really succesfull in Racing.

Here is a pic of a stock Topolino, and one modified for Dragracing ( that one is Trad...):D

I've always wanted to build a little motorcycle powered car.
I would build the body kind of like xderelict's Hoodlum. I've saved a lot of cool sheet metal.
There are a lot of neat ideas to draw from on this site. I've never seen most of these cars before.

  23. Now I have more goofy **** to want... thanks Tingler!

I guess I ain't even close to being the only guy who likes this kind of thing.

I saw one of these little fiat 'qincocento' (aka 500) set up for VW beetle drivetrain at a swap meet in puyallup a year or 2 back. Wow, that'd be cool...

I watched the first video but I can't figure something out. Obviously, Evil is filming. But which one is Bleed and which one is Johnny? And why are they wearing shorts in Wisconsin in early March?

  26. I was very close to putting a SESCO V8 Suzuki in my 59 Abarth Zagato because I couldn't find original parts for the engine...!

Ron was able to get over 300 H.P. out of his engines for Midget racing!
