    URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Massachusetts Bill to Ban the Sale/Installation of Aftermarket Exhaust Systems Is Back . . . Again

After being stalled for the last several years, a bill (H.B. 3574) to ban the sale or installation of “an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust” has been reintroduced by Rep. Liz Malia (Rep.LizMalia@hou.state.ma.us ). The bill excludes limited-use “antique motor cars” from its scope - a clear attempt by the bill’s sponsor to divide the automobile hobby in an effort to gain clearer sailing for this restrictive and damaging piece of legislation. H.B. 3574 has been referred to the Joint Transportation Committee.

We Urge You to Contact the Members of the Joint Transportation Committee (List Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 3574
H.B. 3574 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.

H.B. 3574 does not supply law enforcement with a clear standard to enforce, allowing them to make subjective judgments on whether or not a modified exhaust system is in violation.

H.B. 3574 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased performance, which can make a vehicle safer by improving its ability to merge, pass, travel uphill, etc.

H.B. 3574 would make it difficult for hobbyists to replace factory
exhaust systems with more durable, better performing options.

H.B. 3574 would only exclude “antique motor cars” defined as those vehicles over 25-years old which are used exclusively for exhibitions, club activities, parades, etc.

DON’T DELAY! Please contact members of the Massachusetts Joint Transportation Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to request their opposition to H.B. 3574. Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org . Thank you for your assistance.

If she says she doesn't want to meet with any of those gang types, then she needs to be very publicly called out to meet with the people she is trying deny freedom of choice too. Document attempts to meet, requests to talk, and have many available open invites (so she can't claim a conflict of meetings) to speak about her introducing this legislation. Embarresment and villification can work wonders for a public figure.

Some senator's neighbor's kid has a honda with a wazoo tip I'm sure. So he takes it out on everyone by trying to get a law passed to ban it. Politictians should worry about crime and poverty and stop ragging on a few, having fun and NOT hurting anyone!

uh.. not sure bout where you are.. but round here, and just about everywhere I've ever been, most cars can't be audible at idle from more than 75 feet, or 100 feet, or some shit like that. Doesn't matter whether it's the exhaust, or the speakers, but most places have an ordinance against that. So..... the problem isn't introducing new laws, it's properly enforcing the ones that DO exist. Damn legislators just don't get it yet. Use the laws we have properly, and you eliminate the need for any new laws.

Just think about it. We have freedom to do whatever the fuck we want.. so long as it doesn't take away anyone elses freedom. SO... if you're freedom bugs me.. nock that shit off. It's common sense. Not rocket science, and definetely not the stuff our legislators need to make more friggin laws about.

Oh.. and btw.. I love the sound of a V8 with NO exhaust, but a 4 banger honda w/ resonators just pisses me off. Kinda like weedwackers and leafblowers being run at 7am. Shit just makes me mad.

    Nuff said

BUT- if the lawmakers start with the tuners, then they will eventually get to us. STOP IT NOW and it just goes away...
