I SAW A BUICK PICK UP TRUCK ON EBAY AWHILE AGO IN VIRGINIA. HE DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WAS REAL? I TOLD HIM IT COULD BE! BUICK MADE TRUCKS AND MILITARY AND ARMORED VECHILES. LOOKED LIKE THE REAL McCOY TO ME! AND SO IT GOES , YOU HAVE ONE! IT WAS 26-28 ERA I THINK. COOL OLD DAVID DUNBAR BUICK BUILT THEM TO LAST. TERRY DUNHAM IS THE BUICK HISTORIAN, IN FLORDIA. THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF BUICK, I THINK IS THE TITLE.

    Thanks all.

Talked to a previous owner who found it in a barn in CA. He said it was a dealer conversion. What the story is with the top, who knows. All I know is it's half ass and will get replaced. The headlights are definately not buick, but have a nice shape and look at home. The doors do have a window frame.

I could restore it, trying to interpretate what was originally done since I have no reference on what the top or bed details looked like and try to sell to a collection.....

or ratrod the shit out of it and start whacking it to pieces.....

or mildy build to drive and enjoy ... :D

I had a 30 Buick Pickup a few years back. Mine had a straight 8. From what I remember being told buy a few Buick guys these were converted at the dealerships for service trucks. Buick chassis,Buick drivetrain, Buick from the cowel forward, and then GMC roof, cab, and bed.

No one was very interested in at the time when I had it. GM, IH, and Mopar trucks were not really being built then. I sold it for around $350-400 with the keys still in the ignition from when it was parked.

Sick truck Whaletail, wish I had mine back.

Well, a battery, some starting fluid, wd40, some wiring, and brushing off the plugs.... and the super 6 makes noise and smoke.

  9. Well, from the looks of the cab corners and remains of the spare tire carrier underneath, you have a model 47 that was made into a truck.
If you stay closed driveline you can keep it simple. If you change to open driveline, be sure to change the front spring perches. Otherwise your rear will be all over the place. They have shackles front and rear with a closed driveline.

    Anyway....start cutting.

After seeing the photos you just posted noting the fact that this is a cut up Passenger car I am changing the above post to DO WHATEVER YOU WANT to it!! It is not an original survivor so have fun with it. Brian

  11. Yeah it is homemade...
So what- I like theBuick truck idea ,so I would recommend you build a metal roof appropriately shaped and a detailed metal boxand gate- and have a Buick logo stamped/hammered into it's tailgate and wow em at any car event you show up at!!
SCREW RESTORING ANYTHING,.... THAT IS JUST dead.....

I have to say I am by no means a original person but that deserves to stay uncut. I love keeping the fenders, where on ebay did you find that?? I look at everything and never saw that.

I can't believe more people did not see that auction. If it would have had hot rod, rat rod or whatever else in the title I bet it would gotten alot more hits. But I am the only one that bid.

Whatever it is, factory fluke (which I never believed), dealership conversion (I believe this to be the most probable), or home job (then someone did a fairly good job on the cab back in the day for their utilitarian purposes) It really does not matter. It is a pretty sweet lookin little truck. And it just so happens that it is a Buick, my favorite make in many ways.

I don't plan on really cutting much of anything. I just want to go through it, build some nice tops (carson and a conventional top that looks like it could have came with it), get it sitting right, and swap a nice driveline that looks good in it. I think the wood bed could look real nice, and the hood will stay too.

No need to go too crazy. it will be fun to have something a little different.

I would like to see some of your ideas put into some visuals just to see what it would look like in different incarnations. Photoshop anyone? I wish I had some more daytime photos of it on the ground, hopefully soon.

  14. Well, I can show you what I'm doing to mine...

  16. Wise decision on not cutting it up. Pretty amazing find.

Do you think it was an original or a WW-II gas rationing project? (as the story goes... those with pickup trucks got extra gas rationing tickets, because it was assumed they needed it for work)

  20. The 1929 chev I'm building was converted 4-dr.When i saw the pic showing the panel behind the rear doorpost,it reminded me of mine, still showing remains of wheelwell reveal.Sorry i don't have scanner at this time.My nephew now has the cab for his project(youngrodder1929),he's building channelled, fenderless, buick drummed and caddy flathead powered ride. When i originally brought it home,my neighbor,a retired farmer, came over to ask where it came from.It had been in a barn in North Battleford,Sask..which was where he was from!He described the barn where he had left it,and location. He insisted this was the one he cut in war time to make farm truck.Imagine 50 yrs later & 3 provinces(1500 mi?)away to meet again.:cool:You have great find, unique potential have fun building.
