Actually, that's probably close to a straight cut. If you look at a stock cab the roof has a lot of rake from the factory.

Would this cab (the yellow one) be the same as the cab on a 2 ton looking truck like in the first post of this thread?

    Guys-

Here's mine. I only got a cab and hood - no grille and shell, so I'm planning on using a '30 Chevy shell instead. I wouldn't mind using an original one (especially after seeing how nice the cut down one looks on that little black RPU), but the decent ones I've seen locally go for around $300. Too "spendy" for my budget.

Anyway, mine had already been (very roughly) chopped, but I wanted an RPU anyway so that wasn't a problem (especially since it was free!). I'm doing it "60s style" with GM running gear. Motor is a 292 C.I. inline six. Saginaw 4-speed and '65 Pontiac rear end.

These photos show how it looked when I got it, where its at now, and what I have planned. Its been "on hold" for a few months while I concentrate on a race car project, but I've got 90% of the parts to finish it, and hope to get back to work on it after this summer.

And yes - I saved the top. The long-term plan is to use it as a removable piece that I can trailer along and "pop" on if the weather gets nasty.

BTW - I'm not using the hood for sure. If any of you need one, let me know.

I could use it, kids jumped up and down all over the hood and roof of mine (after breaking anything made of glass)

Yep, it's stock. Has a Corvair front-end. Hey, don't laugh, it was built in the early '70s

I read on another post that you chopped this one 2 1/2". Did you have to lay the windshield back or anything to get it to line up? It doesn't look like you stretched the roof any.
What ever you did I like it, looks great!

  14. stan292,

I like your concept drawing a lot!!! Get rid of the bowtie on the tailgate and get a triple diamond bead-rolled in there!

This is the first mock-up of my new project. 34' I guess, on an A frame. Got a 51 merc flat motor, a t-5 and a 48 Ford rear. This simulates a 5 1/2" front and a 5" rear chop. Wacha think?

Here's mine. It's a 1937 IHC Cornbinder. Hope you like it. Everything in it is from 1937. Even the fog lights are stamped Unity Manufacturing, Chicago IL, 1937. It's slow, but that's ok.

Mines a 1935 IH that was a rusty mess. All I kept was the grille and front half of the cab. If I ever get slow in the shop ,then I will build a chopped two door woody wagon with the cowl and grille. The frame is a 1939 Chevy sedan frame and the IH cowl actually bolted right up to the chevy frame body mounts. The cowl is now dropped over the frame so it will have the appearance of a channel job.The rendering is from Zombie and is used with his permission. I promise Zombie someday it will be built.

Here is one we are building for a customer. Currently the cab is off getting the wood redone and the frame and box are getting media blasted.
