Is this a US made GMC or a Canadian built GMC? It does make a difference because Canadian GMC's are already part Chevy.

***uming its Canadian you need to change the hood, grill and either replace the fenders or fill the parking light holes.

The valance between the bumper and grill is different also and you'll have to use Chevy hood latch stuff.

Those are the things I can think of right off. If its a US made GMC you may have a few more issues.

I think you have to change the radiator support as well, seems I read something about this on oldgmctrucks.com

    Can I ask why????

I've got a 48 Jimmy, and wouldn't even think of making it a chevy.

I like the looks of the chevy,s but you you can see one at every show. GMC,s stand out in the crowd more as they are fewer and have lots of character.

  7. I agree. The GMC is a unique look and mostly, it doesn't look like a Chevy. You can't swing a dead cat (eeewwww) without hitting a Chevy of this vintage.

But - it's your truck, do what you want to.

Just plan on replacing the entire front clip. It seems to me that even the inner fenders are different. I'd rather have the GMC.

the only thing you have to change is the hood, grill, radiator surround, bumber filler panel, and maybe the radiator itself. Don't do it, but if you do can I have your gmc stuff?

Maybe we should talk...I have a set of really nice Chevy steel fenders and I need GMC for my '48. PM me if you are interested in a swap.
    Thanks!

I have a 53 GMC Suburban, and I'm changing it to a chevy...just because I like the chevy frontend better...

I have a pretty nice hood, grille and latching pan that I took off.

I was told by the local old truck parts dealer that I need to change my hood, rad. support, latching pan, and grille. Plus the filler behind the bumper.

    I can keep my fenders.

Look for my GMC stuff in the cl***ifieds soon.

    :D

I asked if it were a US or Canadian made truck for a reason.

The radiator support issue mentioned is the result of the longer GMC motor. In a US made GMC truck that longer motor means a different front crossmember and pushing the radiator forward for fan clearance. And that's why the different radiator mount.

But a Canadian made GMC came with a Chevy motor. So the different crossmember and radiator mount would not make sense in a Canadian built GMC truck. I don't know if it has Chevy parts but I bet there is no reason to change them.

Oh, if it were mine, I'd keep the GMC parts on it. GMC trucks grow on you as you notice how many Chevy trucks there are in shows and on the road.
