Its a gasoline engine, not a motor...

That thing under your hood is an engine not a motor..an engine is something that derives its power from within, internal combustion of a fuel..a motor is something that gets its power from an outside source..electricity,etc.. Gasoline engine, electric motor..I know its semantics but its what my Dad explained to me, an old pilot and mechanic..so get it right!

 

A motor imparts motion, therefore an engine is a motor. That said, semantics is a stupid argument.

What about a steam engine VS a traction motor? Both are the same thing, put to a different purpose. The terms have been used interchangeably for over 100 years.

I was going to have a shot at rixrex about his having an 'engine' under the 'hood' with the retort ...is it OK to have a big 'donk' under the 'bonnet'?? but I got over it.
When did The HAMB become so politically correct? Next thing you know we won't be allowed to mention pneumatic tyres or petroleum distillate!. hehehehe
