These are probably some stupid Questions but I've been stumped.

So I'm slowly working in all the plans to Build a Single Seat modified using that kinda well known Illustration of a ford 8n tractor grill and hood for a project.I've Worked out nearly every aspect of Building it,save a few critical problems.

Being a Front Engine Single seat car, how and I going to set up the pedals and Shift linkages?

I've been Looking desperately all over for 20-30's race cars of all sorts for and idea, but I'm still stumped.

    Any help would be awesome.
    Thanks,
    MT

The ones that I have seen put the shifter between your legs, the clutch to the left of the column and the brake and go pedal to the right. You could run a hand brake.

yea thats kinda what I've come up with.I'd really rather not be shifting between my legs, but if worse comes to worse.

the Handbrake idea has been tossed around, but That would be fixing a slightly Complicated problem with a more complicated one.

    thanks man

It might not fit in with your plans, but what about using a slant-6?

You could have the motor leaning towards the centre of the car, with the gearbox and driveshaft running down the left hand side.

Of couse, this is all very well for me to say, being in New Zealand. I'm used to shifting gears with my left hand;)

Could the shift linkage be wrangled to sit/hang off of the left side of the inner cage? Or better yet, what about a "on the tree" setup? That'd give you the clutch on the left, and the brake and gas pedal on the right.

    What do you think?

An old 20s sprinter we had at the store had a Bblock banger with A trans and rear. Clutch pedal on the left, shift between the legs, hand brake on outside left of cockpit, accelerator on right. Could have had brake pedal on right as well, either mechanical or hydraulic. Very tight for a 6footer like me even when I was thin, make sure your cowl has clearance for your fingers around the wheel!!

I'm Using an early 70's Straight 6 from a Chevy truck i got for free.other wise I'd Be more open for drive train changes. You just can't beat free when your Lower than low budget, hah.

Although that slant Idea i like alot,i've driven a few RHD cars ,i'm not opposed to it. I'll have to see what i can find though.

the Column shift,i'd rather keep away from,i just hate those fuckers, Trying to drive a 39'buick when i was 12 really sealed that up for me.

by the way,for those that don't know of the illustration,it was on here many years ago.A chance Encounter with an 8n for sale on my road made me wonder why i wanted it so bad everyday, then everything clicked.

the bottom Boattail is the idea.I want to use alot of period styling. Riveted Body, Copper lines, etc etc.

I basically want to make one of my life long dreams for low budget single seat(a personal ME only connection) racer for me to escape the world with.

I'm sure you guys get me.And thanks for the Brainstorming, it's been a long time since I've had a chance to talk to people that know what there talking about.

why not make a shifter linkage to move it over to the right hand side of the cab? similar to transverse mounted fwd drive cars.
