Was discussing building a new car trailer with a freind and was wondering what you guys have, currently we have a real nice big tex 18ft with a winch setup but are looking to build something lower and cleaner.. anyone have any ideas
I'll have to post some pics when I've got it painted and all ***embled . I just stretched my 16 footer to 24 ft and am mounting a 40" semi sleeper on the front to save on motel bills when scrounging parts. It also has an 8,000 lb winch, lights for loading after dark and tandem 6,000 lb axles
I have put some thought into various trailer designs, a cool clean look would be to bend flat steel into C channel in a large press brake, kind of like a car frame, then use a formed u channel as cross members. Put a low drop axle on it and make the tounge out of the C channel as well. I have had trailers out of 2X5 tubing, but they tend to rust out, but I like the clean look of tubing.
Go to trailerplans.com and have a look. They sell kits and plans that you could customize. The extreme 4x4 trailer has room for one car and a camper unit in the front (featured on extreme 4x4 on powerblock tv). They used a fleetwood model and installed a generator for weekend wheelong trips. Plans come with list of materials. Usually rather cheap to build. Good luck!
The tex trailer is good for the heavy stuff we were looking to build a clean light 2 axle for Roys 41 ford and my roadster project. I saw 2 great ones at the roadster show but didn't take a picture (wasn't thinking) one was Jimmy Shines and the other I have no idea but it was really clean with a tilt and no ramp. Was hoping someone here had some pix...
