I took a road trip to Kansas over the weekend to check out a few model A sedans and a few trucks caught my eye. I sat in an a few cabs of the trucks in these salvage yards and feel in love. In an instant it all came back to me.....the dash, steering wheel, door panels, etc... Just like my grampa's 50 chevy pick-up back in the day. The more I started checking out some of these trucks the more I lean toward working on one of them instead of the model A. Both would be cool but I'm really starting to dig these 47-54 chevy trucks. Decisions..Decisions......
If any of you are working on one of these trucks please post up some picks if you don't mind. I would like to see what you are doing with em'.
    Later,
    Vince

I'm building the one shown in my avatar currently.

Today the almost bare frame is on jack stands in my shop with the running boards mocked up in what I think is their final position. I hope to have the body on it in another month or so.

I appreciate all the input thus far fellas'! I took a ride to a local parts dist. today called "classic parts" here in KC. They specialize in classic chevy/gmc truck parts only. Man, It was like a kid walking into "toys r us" for me! I am so pumped about getting one of these projects going. My plans for one would be to keep it almost "factory" in appearance but go with a small block chevy motor and a 4 speed. For the exterior I would like to go with some rust pearl "hot rod flatz" paint from kustom shop, powdercoated steelies, chrome caps, whitewalls,etc.... almost "sleeper" lookin'. Now just to find the right truck. They seem to be pretty plentiful. Unlike many, I prefer the three window over the five window. I really would like to find a solid 47-50 shortbed. But any 47-53 shortbed will do nicely. Thanks for the knowledge thus far. It is much appreciated!

Here is my 15 year old son's 1948 three window project that he has traded hard labor and $75.00 cash to get it to this point. Cab and front sheet metal is sitting on an S-10 chassis and plans are for a small V8 and automatic tranny. He plans on driving this to the Frog Follies in Evansville, IN in August. He will have his drivers permit and has already registered for the show.

Mmmm. That chop looks tasty on the calico.

47FordPanel: My son turned 14 yesterday and we tacked in his front cab mounts on the S10 frame tonight. He's digging that your son has signed up for his first show! We saw Clark at Autorama Detroit and he has Court thinking about that for next year!!

Here is my 50 chevy. I chopped the top 3 1/3 inc. Kept the straight axles, lowered it a little. Waitning on a dropped axle. Has a 350 w/ turbo 350 tranny. I drive the piss out of it. Not much of the interior. Used to be an airforce truck so the dash has stuff on it, I havent painted it as you can tell. They are fun little trucks.

1low, Love the beer can picture! Best one yet.

How difficult is it to suicide the doors? Did you do a kit or make it yourself? I really dig the look.

If your son wants to get rid of those 54 fenders to eliminate the marker divits, let me know! I have one of each on my second one of these trucks in pieces.

How bout some shots of the pretty red car behind it?

My plan was to use the original hinges and swap them from side to side but they were wasted.
I ended up using a set of hinges from someones abandoned project.i modifyed them quite a bit to work with the curve of the door.
The red car is a 55caddy moredoor with a 500 and turbo 400 with a spun rod bearing.

I'm gonna do a search on the suicide effect and see if anyone's got a TECH on it. Sounds like a cool trick for this style truck. Have you got pics of what you did?

When you want to scrap that moredoor out, let me know, I wouldn't mind fixing that rod bearing and cruising that thing. One cool pile of metal in your garage!

Is your son's on air ride as well or just an S10 frame?
