Well, this is a "first come, first serve" world we live in. Sucks, but that's normally the nature of the beast. Did you guys have more contact that just on the message board? I mean, a day's not THAT long to wait to have someone pick it up who will appreciate more than some Joe Blow who picked up a free classified ad somewhere.

If you was to tell me, you'll take it, then waiting another day isn't a problem. But if you wanted to come over and look at it, without a commitment to take it, first money gets it. Too many times I have passed on a quick sale for some one who was "90 percent sure" they would take it. Then when they got here, it was the wrong color, or too rusty, or not rusty enough, or the wrong side, or their father died, again.

I think a large reason for boards like this is so that guys can wait until tomorrow. I think we all would be cool if they said they would and then didn't if a brief reply that went........."hey d*ckhead, why didn't you show up"?

And then maybe later "The pr*ck didn't show up when he told me he would" when they went to claim something else.

Generally I agree though, first with the money in normal situations.

even with a fellow hamber? i would feel bad to bone one of us. i like to think we look out for each other, i know how it is in the real world but i feel we are brothers and sisters here and if i said im coming over and pulled a no show that would be stiffing one of us, this aint the recycler i know about getting stiffed only to well but i think we have a good bunch of folks here, i know if i said something on here like im coming over that is word, i would be over .but like i said less than 20 posts i should have known better my bad.......i still trust the word of someone on here, but next time i will see how long they have been on here and if they are true......sorry about the venting i thought this was a tight group.......no i take that back i know we are..flyn

By your own words you didn't comit to buy. You were coming to look. If he passes on the sale and you decide you don't want it he's left holding his dick. This seems like a no win for both guys.

me, personally... I would tell guy number two "I got another fella gonna show up tomorrow, I've given him first stabs at it, if he passes, it's yours"... unless I had to have the money immediately, which would rarely not happen, not for a nights wait.

I see both sides - I jst bought sight-unseen from a fellow HAMBer and it gave me much more confidence that I wouldnt be disappointed. I have another deal going on with another and the biggest difference is when you get on the phone. Forget email. Talking man-to-man and you immediately start getting a feel for the other guy.

Is he chatty, pleasant, knowledgeable? I'd hold for a HAMBer after a good phone call - but I'd make it plain that I'd expect a call if he couldnt make it. No hard feelings, just let me know.

A little story about lookee-loos and buyers.
I had a nice aftermarket 40 Std. Grille for sale at a swap meet for $150 (yes, a long time ago). A local guy offered me a hundred for it, I passed, but told him it was his at the end of the meet for the hundred if he still wanted it, BUT if you don't buy it today it is $150.
He didn't show up at 5:00 so I took it back home and then to the store the next morning and back on display it went. Sure enough, at lunchtime he walks in and says "I'll take the grille.". OK, says I, that'll be $150. "But, yada yada yada", he says. I told you yesterday it was $100 til 5:00 then $150 afterward, didn't I?, says I. "Yes, you did", he says. OK, so I put the grille under the counter and we were done. He goes to the door, turns around, comes back, hands me the $100 and the $50 he already had in his pocket to pay me with, picks up the grille, walks to the door and hollers "F--- YOU!" as he leaves.
I smiled and waved and said, Thank YOU!
If you make a deal, stand by it even if you don't want the part any more. Integrity is integrity even though you may be a cheap ass.

yeah it happend to me on Egay I told the guy I wanted a motor and when I got home someone else bought it and he said O well. It kinda made me mad but I guess I shouldnt have bought it instead of calling the guy. You should have told the person "I want it and will come buy it when I get off work if you want you can come buy and take a deposit till I get home" it sucks but things like this happens all the time. So many people call and say they want it and then never show up or flake out and leave the seller turning down other people with money.
