Hey guys Im having some problems with my lifters. I pulled them and cleaned them. Filled them with oil and put them back in. I can push them a bit with my finger. so I install them. 2 will not pump up. so I let it run a little while and I notice that number 1 and number 6 cylinder rocker arms stop working and it starts to tap hard. I ***ume the collapsed, and are no good. What can I do with these? are they rebuildable? I would really like to find some used ones. the price of new ones are a bit much for me at this time. Any Help would be great!

When you had them out to clean them, did you take them apart or just clean the outside? When I got my Buick someone had taken all the lifters out. So I found a junk engine and got the lifters out of that. I had to dis***emble them. I have not run the engine with them yet but they all got hard when I filled them with oil.

If my memory is correct which it isn't some of the time I will ask if your rocker arms are all oiling. I think the lifters get their oil through the push rod oil hole from the rocker arm. If they are not oiling or the oil hole to the lifter is plugged then the lifter will not pump up. You may have to take the rocker arms off the shaft to clean them (thats what I had to do). I can scan a picture if you need one. *edited-scanned the picture*

Like Vergil said, these engine oil "backwards" from what we're used to- the lifters get oil from the rockers, rather than the other way around. Cleaning up the rocker shaft setup and all the p***ages in the rockers (cool diagram Vergil!) should clear the way for oil to reach the lifters, and that might be the only problem.

I had the rocker arm ***emblys apart and cleaned them. I was All clogged shut. No oil to the lifters.so were the push rods. Problem is It must have been dry for a while, I think the previous owner ran it that way.

does anyone know if I could switch over to soild lifters? I know where there is a complete one of those?
