I need some advice. We (Chrome Czars) are trying to organize a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross and the VFW. We'd like to have a mini car show and maybe show old hot rod movies. We're going to have some cool patches made as a thank you for those who donate. The best date for all 3 parties is the SATURDAY of Memorial Day weekend. The Red Cross doesn't really want to do it unless we can get people to sign up for appointments in advance. So... would anyone show up? Would anyone actually donate? Summer is when the Red Cross needs the most blood... car wrecks, drunken accidents, and then there are boys and girls in Iraq and Afghanistan...
Thanks! I'm just trying to plan things out now... but I'm not getting a very positive response. The Red Cross wants people to sign up but I've only managed to get a few people to say they would even be interested. Bike clubs do this all the time, but I guess car guys aren't interested. Maybe it's the timing/weekend. FYI, it would either be in Berwyn or Addison if it were to happen
Remember the Alamo. Remember Pearl Harbor. Remember 9/11. Has everyone forgotten? No one cares? No one wants to drive their hot rod for a good cause?
That would be a good reason to go to chicago, and see my mom while I'm there. Only 375 miles. Let me know when and where. Thanks, John
All you guys afraid of getting blood drawn from ya ?? scared of needles ?? Hey Buddy nice tattoo !!!!!!!!!!!
That's great to see some positive encouragement. I didn't mean to be an ***hole the other day, but half of our club are veterans and 2 are combat vets. I personally have members of my immediate family that served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. And not all of them came back. When this idea came up it seemed like a great way to make Memorial Day Weekend MEAN something besides getting drunk and eating hot dogs in the backyard. And that has great importance to me.
Thanks for bringing this back up, Chad. The Red Cross is skeptical about doing this without having appointments, but I keep saying I know I can bring people in. I hope I'm not a liar. Giving blood will only affect your alcohol tolerance for a few hours... which is why we want to do this in the morning/afternoon. Tattoos are a problem. You can't donate if you've had a tattoo within 12 months. How many people would this be a problem for? Unfortunately, it affects me, but I just gave blood 2 weeks ago
