Hey all What's the deal with a "motorhome" small block Mopar waterpump and using one in a rod? Years ago a guy I was talking to wanted me to keep an eye out for one, said there was something special about the early LA block waterpump in a Cl*** A that made it great to use in a rod, but I never found one and most Cl*** A 'house boxes used 413 big blocks. Anyone know the scoop?
Just a wild guess here but maybe it has better water flow because it has to pull more weight, less air flow? later shawn
when i had my 340 car.....i used a 360 cop car water pump.....now how much different it was than the stock one......i'll never know.... brandon
Grb your STD SB Mopar water pump and add a disc to the impellor, just over the diameter of the impellor. Make sure it is as close the the back wall of the timing cover so as to maximise the efficiency of the pump. The std impellors are **** and this little mod make a big diff to the vol of water the pump can move. Rat
The only difference I know of is water pumps for a/c cars have better impellar than non a/c cars. Some early LA water pumps have lower hose outlet is on the other side? Maybe he thought that was special about the motorhome pump? Chad
The ones that had the outlet on the other side were cast ron for the earlier A series engines; the "normal" pump had rhe outlet on the LHS looking from the front of the car.... Rat
He may have been refering to the T/C cover as the small block Mopar motor home covers water pump area are raised and allow you to run a real fan in a low (hot rod) engine installation.
All Thanks for the replies, it makes sense the motorhome would need the best stuff with a little 318 pullin' a loaf around....... Anyone got pics of what Yo Baby was talking about? I can't even imagine what that looks like........
