I have heard that as well, hope it true and turns out as well as the replica of the Grey Wolf did. I also know Turner and have spoken to him getting the story on the Blackhawk full size wall-hanger and his early Stutz (I believe what is now a Bulldog style), he is a good friend of Greg Dawson (owner of the 1916 Packard racer) from Indy. Greg and I have become good friends since he acquired the Packard from the jungle of South America several years back.

Turner vintage races a newer style purposeful built racecar with the Stutz logo, nice car, crew, beautiful rig -whole nine yards-helps to have some money I suppose-good guy though and he does have a spot for Stutz.

Forgot to mention I also have that Myron Stevens video. I have watched it I don't know how many times. I made a second copy in case the first ever goes bad. The group that published it was the National Auto Racing Historical Society which I belonged to and then one day the Society seemed to no longer exist. I have tried Stevens methods as he demonstated on that video and even though he was in his eighties he showed he was one talented dude-Jim

    Okay, HAMBers - great thread.

I'm working on a full-length biography of Frank Lockhart right now.

Seeking copies of seldom-seen photos and info, especially on his California driving career and on the Black Hawk Special.

Thanks in advance for anything you've got or can refer me to.

Here's a (regrettably faint) image of the Stutz Blackhawk body drawing. The legend reads:

"Designed and driven by Frank Lockhart. Financed by Lockhart and Moskovics...(illegible). Constructon cost approximately $100,000. Ch***is and intercooler designed by John and Zenas Weisel. Body built by Myron Stevens. Mechanical work by Lockhart and Jean Marcenac. Wind tunnel tests conducted at Curtis [sic] Aeroplane Co and Wright Field.

Drawing revisd by RW Ford Aug 1975"

Bob Ford worked at the Briggs Cunningham museum, and traced this drawing from the original. I'm reasonably certain that the legend was written by Mr. Ford.

Some additional information from the chapter on the Blackhawk from Mark Dees' book "The Miller Dynasty": Moskovics, one of the sponsors of the project, was president of Stutz at the time. And, according to Dees, the body contours were designed by the Weisels with Stevens' practical input.

Some further evidence of the amazing speed of both Lockhart and his Miller racing cars: I understand that he set a lap record on the San Jose mile in 1927 which stood until 1947 --20 years!
