Wear a helmet. Just a half helmet like the others pictured would be fine.

Customize it to make it fit your car. Paint it, stripe it,put stickers or something else on it.

Or go all out and buy something a little larger than your helmet to cover it. Like these!LOL

Not to hijack this for german helmet talk... But he's right. I used to collect. Here is a good reference page for the steel pots....

I would not normally wear a helmet in a street car but last year when I drove my brother's roadster to the Hunnert Car Pile Up the temps were in the low 30's. I wore my old funny car Simpson which has a Nomex head sock built in. I also wore the 5 layer Simpson jacket and the funny car gloves and was comfortably warm even when the Saturday morning temps were int he teens.
It was also a good deal on Sunday morning as it was raining when we left to head back home. The windshield kept my body dry when I managed to scrunch down enough in the seat and the only time I got even slightly damp was when we slowed down for towns.
I may have looked a bit dorky but I did not come down with pneumonia the following week either.

  6. I've been hit with a piece of lorry tyre tread and also hit in the face with the hood from my car when it blew off.

If you haven't yet been hit by a tyre tread - don't worry - your turn will come.

Both times really really hurt and the second time I was knocked out and was lucky not to die when I lost control of the car.

I now wear a "Top Gun" stylee jet face helmet whenever I travel on the motorway (freeway). There are plenty of cool helmets about.

Other advantages of wearing a helmet is that wind noise can really damage your hearing and you can drive further, longer and faster because you don't get fatigued so quickly.

I had a replica WWII leather flying helmet and goggles I would wear on long trips in my old A RPU. It had zippers on either side for headphones so I bought a motorbike communication system and put it in them hooked up to a stereo. You could listen to music, talk, have a bit of protection and you didn't look like a right fuckwit!
