    Hello All,

I was wondering If a 47-54 will fit on a U-haul auto transport? Have any of you guy's ever used one to tow a project home? As far as I know u-haul has two different trailers.....one for tire widths( measuring left outside tire to right outside tire) measuring 75 " and another at 79.5".

I was wondering If I would run into problems with the bulky fenders clearing the trailer if I rented the 75" one?! Do you all think I would be better going with the 79.5"? Let me know what you all think.....I have to get one of these trailers reserved so I can go pick up this 52' over the weekend.
    Thanks,
    Vince

I hauled my 49 on one of the later model trailers and it fit with no problems. Easiest trailer I have ever loaded a vehicle on!

Man, that makes me feel a whole lot better!!! I have been stressin' a bit about getting this truck home. I have about a 4 hour trip one way. Do need to bring any extra straps or are they provided?

The trailer I rented had those really handy front tie downs that go over the tire, but I took extra just in case and went ahead and tied the back end down just for my own peace of mind.

When I moved to TX from NC, I rented a truck from Budget, and they offered a car-hauling trailer (all 4 wheels of the car are on the trailer... not a tow dolly). My 52 Chevy sedan fit great. It was cheaper than U-Haul, btw.

(Disclaimer... that's the only time the car was on a trailer when it wasn't broke.)

I had about the same distance to go by the way and I was much like you stressed to the max about towing that far.

Hey good luck with your adventure. I hope yours is as uneventful as mine turned out to be. Just relax and take your time towing the truck home and stop once in awhile to check your tiedowns and make sure all is okay. Post some pics after you get the truck home.

Hey vinsanity, Make sure you get the SILVER trailer. AKA the late model trailer. They will tell you that all the trailers are the same size even tho it says the silver one is wider on the web site. DO NOT listen to them. They also have no way of knowing which trailer they have at a given location. There is no way to distinguish between the two in there system. So call and tell them that it MUST be a silver trailer and have someone check. I just went thru all this about three months ago with my 51 Chevy Pickup. These trucks WILL NOT fit on the smaller orange trailer. The silver ones are wider between the fenders...Also the fenders on those trailers lean to the side to make room while loading. Make sure you do that and be careful because its a very tight fit.

The trailer also comes with straps and chains.

P.S. If the truck is lowerd make sure to bring some wood to help get it on the trailer. They also have some very helpful tips on there site on how to load a lowerd vehical...

EDITED: The silver trailer is the bigger one. sorry

Yeah what Choptop said the trailers with the silver fenders are the wider trailers. Anyways mine was orange with silver fenders. My truck was stock height and the doors cleared the fenders to open and close them. It was a good fit!

Is Uhaul renting car trailers without renting a truck to pull it. It used to be their policy to rent them only if you rented a truck to go along with it. they wouldn't hook one up to your truck. Something to do with insurance of course.

Yeah the auto transport is the way to go. I hauled a 56 Ford home with one with a few inches to spare on each side. Usually the driver side fender on those U-Haul trailers folds out so you can have extra room till you get it on the trailer. Good luck
