I dont know if this would be out of place here. Does anyone know of a rebuilder for 1950's power antennaes or a parts source for them. I have a mid 50's power antennae made by a company called Wisi-Diplomat , I'm in need of cable and mast parts and need to get it working again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There is a guy who runs an ad in Hemmings by the name of Klaus W - something-or-other in FLorida. He does factory units for GM and Packard, and charges a fortune. He has new masts and cords manufactured - and will NOT sell these parts to anyone - only will rebuild it for you. It took me finding three different units over the course of three years before I had all the parts to get one nice working unit for my '54 Buick. Quirky and delicate items these are. Good luck. Thanks, I should have known but forgot that Hemmings keeps a good list of service providers, now only if the search function on their site can find him.
You might also try someone who services Hirschmann antennas as well. They were used on 60's thru 80's Mercedes-Benz and BMWs and possibly might have some interchangeable parts.Seems to me that Wisi was also listed for M-B's. The Hirschmann antennas used a nylon cord that was fed through a spring-loaded roller bearing(which usually failed;got water in it and rusted)into the takeup reel.It could be changed without pulling the antenna apart(unless the end was broken off inside).I repaired a few of them by finding a suitable replacement bearing and fitting it to the pivot bracket.
