Does you state require a front license plate?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ROADRAT EDDIE, Mar 19, 2007.

  1. Washington state yes. I was gassing up one time and a State Patrolman was there and came over to my car. Hey you need a front plate on this thing. Oh I'm sorry officer, Ive seen lots of cars without them and I assumed it was OK. You see lots of cars disobeying the speed limit too...does that make it OK? Um no officer. Get that plate on there, I wont write you up now, but if I see you tomorrow and its not on there you are getting a ticket. Besides this thing looks like its on its last leg anyway, bolting a plate to the front will probably help hold it together. Yes officer.

A fellow HAMB'r just recently got a ticket for painting his new plate over to make it look like the 'ol black w/ yellow #'s and letters. I guess you cannot alter the plates whatsoever. KNUX!

Texas requires a front and rear license plate as do some other states. All cars and trucks ever made in the US have had license plate mounts on front and rear.
What is the big deal? Why do so many people take such big offense to something that has been forever the way it is and nobody cried and whined and refused to display and thought they were big rebels and bad boys 'cause they wouldn't and don't?
It is a simple situation, if you don't like it be active and get your state legislature to change it, if it bothers you SOOOOO much to attach a license plate to the front of a car as required by law for decades, do something about it, get out there in Austin and spend your vacation time lobbying Senators and Representatives to change this evil law.
    SSSSHHHHHHEEEEEEEESSSSHHHHHHH! Grow up.
Illegal aliens are pouring across our borders, crippling our health system, invading our schools and neighborhoods, crushing us beneath a tax burden worse by far than the rebuilding of NOLA debacle...and you're worried about freakin' front license plates...wow.

    No fronts in GA

  6. Me and my brother were both stopped for no front plate. He got a ticket, I would have only got a warning, but I had a suspended D.L., so...clink, clink went the cuffs. (This was years ago, I am a law abider now.)

You're "supposed" to run both tags issued on a normal passenger car in Ohio, but I've only known of one friend busted for not running a front. That was in a small town whose yearly budget comes from traffic fines. 99% of the cops don't care. With YOMs, just a rear plate is required.

When defined as a "Street Rod" (I like that term about as much as Rat Rod) only one plate is required in Washington state.

Actually, that's not so. New cars sold to dealers in one tag states have the mounting holes for the front bracket, but not the bracket itself. Front brackets are a 'required' option in two tag states.

Correct and I've even seen cars with no holes from one plate states my truck (an '06) was bought in Mo a 2 plate state and only had the holes I had to ask the dealer for my plate bracket.

I thought about putting on my visor, but then I decided that I didn't care enough and just don't run one.

PA. = NO I love N.J laws every time I go over there they try to get something on my car or bike. N.J. laws suck. The only think between my gargae and N.J is the Delaware River. I like it that way.

Two are issued in Iowa...only the rear needs to be displayed on '48 and earlier vehicles...the "front" plate needs to be kept in the car. I've never run the front plate on my coupe...no problems.

    Only the rear in Mississippi.

  16. In 1947 Maryland only issued one license plate so I can get away without runnin' one on the front. MD requires that you keep the historic plates and registration in the car at all times when running a YOM plate(s).

Idaho doesn't recquire the front plate to be displayed on 48 and earlier vehichles. Plates are issued as pairs, you keep 'em. If you sell or trade the car, the plates stay with you and transfer to youre next car.

I don't know if it's required in Vegas or not, but I have been running only the rear plate for years (18). I guess the city is growing so fast, they have much more to worry about then whether someone is running a front plate or not.

Two are required in Wisconsin, but I stopped caring years ago..only run two on my daily. Had a cop pull me over a couple years ago in my daily ('95 Fleetwood) for the window tint being too dark. She told me that "They don't like pulling over cars with dark tint because they can't tell how many people are in the car". I told her that it wouldn't really be a problem if she just didn't pull me over. She actually thought that was funny...got off with a warning... :)
