Just got the 1960 235 all ****oned up in the 52 chevy, we used a kit from langdon's to put a modern gm overdrive trans. Now that I am putting the distibutor, and harmonic balancer back in I realized we have no tdc marks on the balancer. I know there are the little marks on the distributor, but that doesn't leave any provisions for timing it while running , or where to stab the distributor. I know I can watch the rockers and stick my finger in the spark plug hole, but that's not very exact. What have you guys done? (the original motors were timed off the flywheel through the trans bell houseing, I am told, in case anyone was wondering) Thanks..... -john
john, just off the top of my head, I would suggest getting your engine to number 1 cylinder at TDC and make a mark on your harmonic balancer and rig a pointer (Sharpen a piece of welding rod and bend to fit to mounting point on your engine ) This should give you a known starting point for timing.
Could you or someone else here hook me up with the info for that adapter? I have a 235 I picked up and haven't found what I need to put a late model ****** to it. Any help is appreciated
do what Obsa said. also to help you find TDC, the keyway in the damper will be at the top (12 oclock) position when #1 is at TDC.
