This chick is nuts, she's found what she calls a safe place to go WOT on her Ninja 1100 all day long!

Kinda reminds me a bit of "Akira" now that I think about it...

Fascinating cause it fills in a lotta detail that was left (kept) out when we listened to it happen back in the mid eighties...

Also interesting to notice, that no matter what, mother nature always steps right in and gets to work...

"Here is map that shows ... level of radiation on asphalt, usually on the middle of road, because on edge of road it is twice as higher and if you step 1 meter off the road it 4 or 5 times higher."

    This woman is obviously insane.

  6. Thanks for the link. Makes you see what a thin grasp on the world we have. I looked out over the busy downtown from my house and just imagined it happening here.

That was really kind of disturbing.....
as a group, we are dreamers....
recreating a past of simpler times through our hot rods....
her story was a reality check....

I wonder how many people that were in that town on that day are still alive. I'll bet not many. And to think that the government didn't tell the Russian people how much of a disaster had taken place until they were forced to by the outside world.

Yeah, it was a trip reading about how they wanted to make the one city an extreme tourism place, but that the silence was too much for people...

Certain forms of radiation are harmless, like that stuff thats in smoke detectors... Alpha emitters, put a piece of paper between it and a geiger counter, and it like a switch turning off electricity, nuthin, gone.

But I bet the shit thats scattered about over there is the gamma shit, the bad stuff that goes thru everything... Its weird stuff, how an area hundreds of miles away is too hot to get near, but she can drive behind the freakin plant itself...

"wooden building soak up radiation like a sponge."

tasty. I also wonder if the former USSR surpressed any photographs of that place "glowing" the night after, that isn't something anyone gets to see firsthand and survive...

wow. i am absolutely facinated with that story. seems like something out of a science fiction movie...what makes it even weirder is that it's real.
would be an interesting trip if it weren't for the radiation. disturbing.

WOW...That's an awesome story...It's scary to think that all that happened so quickly...I'm thankful that we can live the way we do here...

I can think of a few cities in the middle east that need to look like that right now in my opinion...

Its amazing how the nuclear industry can totally ignore something like this. Hell it was just this winter they reopened the Davis Besse power plant on Lake Erie for some stupid shit they pulled up there. We just can't trust our Goverment and For profit Power companies to take this seriously.

Thats was good, I like weird shit like that......Tesla is another really goodone to read up on.

You know for a weird chick she's kinda cute.......but I felt like I was reading something that the old WWF wrestler The Iron Sheik wrote [IMG]

    Very interesting.

  19. Oh yes, let's shut them all down and build some more coal-burning plants, cause that's SO much better. I'd rather have a well-run nuke plant with a 1% chance of breaking loose than a 100% chance of getting Black Lung. Maybe if wind power actually paid off, I'd agree, but it doesn't. Neither does hydrodynamic power. So nyah, hippies.

Hell I'll stick with our not getting trade deals etc from George and his cronies for being Nuclear free thanks.....
My Brother was in Russia when that happened, back in them days if you didn't show up after getting a tourist visa yo wouldn't get one again, had his VW Kombi tested with the Giger counters etc, was pretty funny the plods trying to get a reading from the radiator at the front of a rear engined air cooled VW.....

Forget it Hillbillythe kid. People will buy Hollywood and the China syndrome but they'll never buy the truth. It just isn't PC. [IMG]

I had a motorhome with California plates pull up to our gatehouse once out here on the INEL. I walked up to it and the longhair about 24 years old opens his window and I can smell grass. His girlfriend wearing panties and a bra in the other seat is stoned and looks about 15.
    "Excuse me officer."
    "Yes?"
"How do you get to Yellowstone Park from here"
"Go back the way you came about 25 miles and take the freeway north. Follow the signs"
    "Oh, Uh thanks."
"We saw this place and just wondered what you do here. Looks like a prison or something with those fences."
    "We test Nuclear Reactors."
    "You TEST NUCLEAR REACTORS???"
    "Yup"
"How do you TEST A REACTOR?"
"Well, we get them running then screw things up and watch what happens when they fail."
"UH, guess we better get back on the road, bye."
    "Have a nice day!"
Bet the smell of the shit in his pants covered up the grass smell as he drove off. No need to bust him, he was sober when he left! I also bet he checked to see if his balls glowed in the dark that night. [IMG]

DAMN Joe, how close do you guys let those things get to criticality??? Please make sure you always push the correct button!!!! [IMG]

From what I understand, The Chernobyl reactor was of a particular design that the US figured out back in the 50's was a grenade with the pin halfway out... kinda like throwing a V8 onto a stock T frame and using EMT-conduit hairpins to hold your suicide on... or sumpin, just think perposterously dangerous and inherently unsound... BUT, they were cheap to set up. Thats the old USSR for ya, fast, cheap, and on the edge of failure.

I don't know if this was the same sort as 3 mi. Island or not, but that situation was no where near as bad as this.

What that chick doesn't remind you of is that the other three reactors were kept online for several years later, and the international community pressured them for a long time to decomission the entire place.

There was another site I found a couple years ago, all in russian, but it had snowy-fuzzy black and white pictures (the effects of gamma and X-ray radiation busting thru the camera and "exposing" the film) Thats showed all sorts of crazy shit... like half of a fuel rod and some poor fuckers boot, that were found on top of the roof of one of the other reactors! Big drain pipes that had now solidified molten metal and concrete pouring thru them... pictures of thickass concrete walls that had shitloads of plumbing attached to them... buckled and snapped.

And they RAN that shit still!

Hydrogen fuel cells, and photovoltaics are the answer... the next 20 years will make those things feasable. every building should generate its own shit, decentralize. Yeah, fuel cells can probably blow up too...
