I found this car for sale and noticed the "Special" air cleaner. It's a '54 mainline. is that a stock air cleaner, or is that from some other model?
I wouldn't say it's that special. Even my 6 has that air cleaner, though I bet the carb inlet is different. Mine even say "special". Damn oil bath, all I get is more greasy.
haha yeah well I guess since the deluxes were plain as could be, ford just has to make everything seem better than it is.
My Fairlane with an I6 came with the same one, although it was in the trunk when I bought the car. I put it on and ran it for awhile, but the oil bath is a mess and really doesn't clean much of the air that rolls through it. The tough part is finding a replacement air cleaner that fits on the flanged inlet of the stock carb but I found one at my local parts store that has a rubber surround with a hose clamp that fit really well and looks cool too. Mine was painted flat black but I dig that original paint. Maybe you can find a paper air filter that will fit nicely inside of it so you can keep the look but gain some function too?
