I found this car for sale and noticed the "Special" air cleaner. It's a '54 mainline. is that a stock air cleaner, or is that from some other model?

  5. I wouldn't say it's that special. Even my 6 has that air cleaner, though I bet the carb inlet is different. Mine even say "special". Damn oil bath, all I get is more greasy.

My Fairlane with an I6 came with the same one, although it was in the trunk when I bought the car. I put it on and ran it for awhile, but the oil bath is a mess and really doesn't clean much of the air that rolls through it. The tough part is finding a replacement air cleaner that fits on the flanged inlet of the stock carb but I found one at my local parts store that has a rubber surround with a hose clamp that fit really well and looks cool too.
Mine was painted flat black but I dig that original paint. Maybe you can find a paper air filter that will fit nicely inside of it so you can keep the look but gain some function too?
