Good post, I am sure some one will give you a hand I am in CA 92223 when I am visiting kin. Not right now. I do advise you to get a machine shop to do your drive shaft, but the rest should be do-able by any experienced (drinker, woops) welder/hot rodder. Good luck.
To return the favor that a few other Texan HAMB'er did for me; If you can bring it to my place in Yucaipa, I would be glad to help with Motor mounts, trans mounts. All my tooling is here. As for the driveshaft, Take it to a shop. If you dont care about "perfection"...Ill try my best What type of car are we looking at? Do you have all the parts? As for payment...no worries. Food/money not needed, but up to you.
what kind of shop do I take my drive shaft too? Chopped50 I wish I could but I dont have a trailer to bring it out there. I have all the parts and everything. I have a 302 with a AOD trans I want to drop in my 51 Merc. I bought the motor mount kit from Jamco.
driveline shop... most large truck suspension places also do driveline repair. shouldnt cost more than $50 per weld on the shaft, and around $35-$40 to balance. budget a hunnert bux IF your shaft dont need any new u-joints
I can do it if you want, but you've gotta come up here... no-go on the DS tho. gotta have that balanced and I don't want my weld coming apart and killing someone
My dad was talking the other day about a 36 Ford he had. The one's that didn't stop as it was the last year of mechanical/non-hydraulic brakes. Anyway, he took one transmission off and put another one on. It worked on the engine, but the yoke for the DS was different. He took it to a local guy (this would have been about 1952-54'ish) to get it welded up. They whacked the end off the existing DS, got a yoke that fit the new transmission and gas (oxy/acetylene torch) welded those pieces together. No balance, no cleanup, nothing. He didn't think about it at the time, but (much) later on he realized what they had done and thanked his lucky stars the thing never blew apart on him.
Where are you in Yucaipa??I need some frame boxing help because I can't weld my way out of a paper bag...And I'll give you some of the stuff I'm not using in return..
