Hey guys, I have a '62 T-Bird with a stock 390 FE and Cruise-O. Engine is knocking hard now and found a guy selling a running 390 pulled from an early 70's pickup. I was wondering if I'm in the clear with mounts and bellhousing bolt pattern? Or if anyone can see any other headaches with this weekend fun.

A later block will work with early mounts, not vice versa.

  5. Bell's no problem......you will likely have to use the oil pan from the 'Bird, won't swear to that though, don't remember if that age 'Bird has a different pan than the passenger cars. :)

I'm pretty sure all 390 blocks are exactly the same. Just swap over what's needed to bolt in.

if you wanna put headers on it just remember that the bolt pattern for the exhaust between the car and truck heads are different

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking you'd have to swap the oil pan and the oil pump pickup tube to go with it. Someone else might know for sure, but while I was in there, I'd change to a high volume oil pump just as an improvement.

Not all the same, read the post about the motor mounts again. Early & late blocks are different but they will work. 390 pickup motors are low compression, lots of deck clearance and dished pistons too
