Greetings everyone.. just thought i'd post my 1st in this *****in forum. By the way, I am a total Newb to the scene!!!!!! I ve got a situation. I'm going to bag the 54 sedan, but want to change the front suspension. I was told from numerous sources that a 2nd Gen Camaro/Bird would slip right in.. So now, Slip right in <==?? From what I gather: Take the crossmember/whatever is attached to it-- off the 54, and do the same with the donor and put the donor in the 54?? ****.. ive never done this.. DOH! I cant afford a Must2..so tha'ts out of the question. Thanks
I believe if you do a search or view the Tech files someone here posted how to bag the stock front end on 53-54 chevys. Oh yeah, do an intro post in the intro section...welcome to the hamb Bill
Thanks Bill.. Done. Search, i used 1st. I dont think I'm using the right keywords. All i get is Must2 info and stock fabs. :\ Thank you.
This is the one: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152076 then do a search just like this: "chevy+lowering" and make sure you're searching in ***les, not the entire thread. Bryan
Here the one i did on baggin 49 -54 stock front end, these should help you out. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152076 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123065&highlight=Gambino+notch
hahah...just tryin' to steal your thunder, Phil...I even tried getting my name changed to ruskipipes!! Bryan
From my experience, a Camaro clip will fit, aligns nicley with the frame and you get an instant lowering job because of the way it kicks up (I have one in my 54). But .... the track is about 4" to 5" inches wider than stock 54, so be prepared to spend money on narrower control arms, and even with the arms if you are really low you may have issues. Find a Nova clip or go MII.
hmmmmm... well... that wasnt exactly what I wasn't looking for.. but... ****e.. Looks cheaper. I may just stick to this. instead of the 2ndGen camaro swap. Man, is there something that this Board doesn't have? Thanks guys.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like i said, bad*** board.
if you want your car to have any resale value do a must II. the money will come back to you at resale. any real knowledgeable buyer will p*** on a camaro cliped 54. a great clip for the right vehicle this is just not one of them.
to add my $.02-- budget is budget; if you don't have the $$, you don't, BUT-- you're comparing apples and oranges.. you can't put a new MII in the same basket as a used subframe. If you WERE to rebuild the sub it would cost you as much or more than an all new, or a rebuilt/upgraded original MII. That said- a good quality MII crossmember kit will run you around $400, plus the used MII components at $100 or so. Installation cost will vary, but can you buy a used subframe and install it, unrebuilt, for the same money or less? then, when you get done installing the MII your sheetmetal and radiator bolt back on, with the sub, you still have to figure out a mount, maybe a different radiator depending on the sub, and, bumper bracket mounts. At the end of it all, you're still too wide.
Just bag it wth the stock front end, I'm in the process of it now. The thread posted by rustypipes is awsome, you should have no problems if you use that as you guide
That's just what I wanted to hear. Looks like I'm going that route. Indeed, Rustipipe's tute is a great motivator.
