Found this article while parusing through latest pages of Hot-Rod-Hotline (hotrodhotline.com) I recommend subscribing, allot of usefull info on teir website. I think it is so cool when an old car has been found after being tucked away for decades. Thank God some-one saved this from the crusher or worse..The 80's
Anyone ever seen it up close? Those gauges under the hood are too much!!

It went through three color changes from Candy Flake, to Yellow Pearl ('62 Car Craft Magazine) to last Candy Flake. It was built by Dave Puhl and John Malik, last shown at the New York Worlds Fair in '65 after that they closed the shop and it disappeared. I found it in Sept '04 in Florida, these are pics of it as it sits today. We are making plans to try to put it in the Darryl Starbird Rod and Custom Hall of Fame. The Trendero is sitting in Mark Morarity’s shop in Mounds, Mn. He is getting ready to restore it back to original. It will be in Yellow Pearl when it comes back, the original of Dave Puhl. **** “Fuzzy” Fuerholzer

That car is just palin awesome. I am glad it is being restored. I would have preffered it to be in the copper color and not yellow but at least it won't be gathering dust anymore. I was just looking at the pictures from Riksters site last night.

I grew up near the Trend shop and I remember seeing it for years in the front window surrounded by trophy's this was the 70's I was a kid my mom would drive us by their once in a while on our way somewhere and from the back seat I would always stretchneck at it one time I asked mom what kind of car it was and she told me it ws customized. I just realized this is the firs custom I ever saw. Later it got pushed in back and was almost forgotten about .Johnny Malik wouldnt let people see it. then when they moved to florida johnny threw out all the trophies! even the seven foot tall sweepstake winners some of the employees kept some a friend of mine has one that had a clock built into it. Rickster has a pic of the car on his sight as it sat in the showroom like I remember. It plays a part in my fascination with show cars . not to mention Im a huge dave puhl fan. Showrod

Based on what I've seen of Mark's work on M/F dvd's, I'd have to agree it is in very capable hands. Took some time to veiw some of the pictures on Rikster's site and was amazed at the extensive workmanship that went into this rod. Notice the chrome everything!! How did these guys afford to chrome all this **** back then??? I heard that after WWII there where chrome shops with no govt. contracts and needed work???
Yellow does look killer....but so does that copper!

P.S. wasn't there some discussion awhile ago about non-running show cars?? From what I can see there was/is no radiator ?? Did this car drive??

My guess would be that all the cooling and whatnot were housed in that big bump in the bed. Seems the only reason for it....

"Ahh! the emperor has NO Clothes on!!!"

I first read about this ugly ****er back in the 60' .It belongs in the ugly *** customs thread.
It's typical of those Kustoms which had mods done to gain points ,you know how it works, chop top ; 50 points, lowered; 60 points, frenched headlights; 70 points, chrome plating on engine 150 points...etc etc so when the points are tallied up at the end of judging the car with most "things" done to it wins the trophy.
No points were ever given for taste which is why good lookers like the Wilhelm Mopar were forgotten about pretty quickly.
