Never run a blower, but tuned lots of 600-750cfm carbs for the street.
Holley-if you LIKE to tune your carb.
AFB-if you dont want to play with it and subscribe to the K.I.S.S. school of thought.

Holleys need boost referenced power valves. I have used 2 edelbrock 750s on my 355 for years . comp cams hyd. cam holley alum.heads 10 to 12 psi 9.35 145 mph in my street driven 76 chevette, same combo went 10.19 in my 55 chevy ,so I say edelbrock:D

  6. on the wagon we first ran it with dual 600 edelbrocks, switched to dual 650 double pumpers and the thing really came alive! i think double pumpers work way better than vacuum secondarys with superchargers. really could feel the difference swaping out the edelbrocks. plus we kept having a problem with the accelerator pumps drying out with the edelbrocks cause the carbs are exposed to the elements.

Either will work, holleys require maintenace, but you can actually tune them easily, carter/edelbrock is a simpler design, if it works out of the box for you it might be the way to go.

Usually holleys have to mount sideways, so linkage may be easier with the Edelbrocks

  8. Just curious here. WHY? The boost occurs nowhere near the carbs. Also, aren't there vacuum actuated power "type" valves in the AFB? Aren't they subject to the same vacuum signal atop the blower as the Holley? I've always wondered why more street blowers ran the AFB type instead of the better performing Holleys. Hell, if you're running a blower in the first place, isn't power the goal? So, if you've got to "tune" it a bit, isn't that part of the drill?

I am in the middle of that very thing right now. My 6-71 on a 400 inch Poncho had 2 Carter 625s and felt great, but my blower guy said I MUST go to 750s.

The diffrence is night and day. At 10 lbs of boost with the 750s the car is terrifying. It truely scares the **** out of me.

    Good luck, -Abone.

Thats what I don't understand... I'm not really chasing max HP as my efi will do that, this will be a 6-12mth fix,

The mount doesn't matter as I have a cross over efi setup

a blown engine in a loaded condition can still make 5-6 inches of vacuum across the carbs .if the power valve activation point is below that the valve will close. so either a power valve with a high activation point 8-10 inches or the valve must be referenced externally.

That is good to hear......you must be on the right track.

  13. flamedabone, i bet it feels like your motor could take more than 750's too huh? thats how the hemi feels.
groucho i totally agree with you on the holleys being better, like i said, the car came alive with the holleys.

Rickyracer. I think Holleys are a better carb for a blown application, but I can't get over the look. They are just too ugly, so I'm stickin with my Carters.

PS. Your Dee Sota gives me wood.
