i really wanted to build something similar to plowboy's work for my next project. i have been looking in the local special interest paper for a cheap donor and today my search will finally end. i am no longer looking because of this guy. i know this was in another thread but check it out... this guy is cranking these things out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1930...ItemQQcategoryZ39405QQitemZ220095005946QQrdZ1 i may be a little pessimistic but i have a feeling this trend is going to be ruined and played out in the near future. because of this guy anyone can buy what they want instead of toiling countless hours in the garage. oh well i guess thats how it goes. Money is a strong motivator and if he can make a buck on this trend i guess why not . who am i to **** on this guy for making $.
i don't neccesarily like what this guy is doing. i don't think its even close to what guys like plowboy do. its just another example of a guy jumping on the trend bandwagon to make a buck from poseurs who CAN'T see the difference between this and extensive metal work and creativity. who knows... maybe i'm a poseur for liking this idea and maybe i was jumping on the bandwagon myself. so maybe i should thank him for saving me the trouble, before i wasted my time and money. lol
The good news is builders like Plowboy are innovators and if this design gets stale, they'll already being doing something different. Bryan
The cars pictured, while not really bad, lack the soul and immagination that have gone into the Space Truck, Luner Lander and the Stude Coupster that was just posted this week. They are just Chevy fins with a cowl tacked on, where the above-mentioned examples are well thought out designs and the artistry is in the details. I wouldn't even put them in the same catagory. My 2cents GV
you're right... i shouldn't whine so much. it just sux because i was looking for either a 59 or 60 impala to build mine from. oh well maybe i should just concentrate on making my '27 a sixties style show rod. uh oh i think i just jumped on another bandwagon. ha ha lol
I kinda feel like you should do what you wanna do, screw everyone else, including the sheep. I have friends that will not buy or build their dream car because there are too many of them at car shows, I keep telling them you gotta do what you like, even if there's lots of them. Besides i think you can do a way better and more custom job than that guy. Blake
check his feedback... you can see how much the other one went for, ask big pauly above who bought a car from him... he said it was shotty workmanship.
In order to build something off the wall...you MUST think outside the box...Plowboy wasn't the first to build this kind of car,and he'd be the first to tell you so...but those on the HAMB seems to think he's the originator Each car can be designed looking completely different look...by thinking of a totally new way to build it... Don't give up...it'll be a while before it's p***e... R-
thanx maybe i'm just looking for an excuse to give up the search. affordable yesteryear cars are almost extinct on the east coast...at least NY for sure.
hey recardo...remember "Kustoms are for getting girls... hot rods are for getting rid of them"- Robert Williams
Hey here's an idea stop whining and build one that not a piece of ****. there are more than one a few 32 roadsters out there. some are **** some are nice. **** what other people are building, build what you want. Even if there are 50,000 of them, quality and style will show and get respect. that is why people like plowboy don't worry about this kinda ****.
Let me get this straight. " Iwant to build a car like some one else has but I can't because some else has."
Well said dvanecek! A few of these are cool...Plowboy's, Doc Frankenstein's for example.... I've been trying to 'bite my tongue' on things I don't like.......But to be honest, that Studebaker "thingy" from a few days ago that everyone was drooling over looked like a LIMP ****.......there, I said it.... And the one above has too flat of sides......hahahaha!
When Barry Lobeck built his highboy 32 back in the 70s it pretty much ruined it for everybody, I don't another one has been built since.
Ha ha... that sounds about right. like i said i'm probably using it as an excuse to stop searching online all nite for a 59 or 60 imp to use. i think i should concentrate on getting my '27 to where i want it and stop *****ing... thanx to all the guys who are encouraging me to build it anyway.
Yeah, that theme is soooo overdone. There's like 15 cars in the world, frickin everybody has one. Worse than the damn VWs in mexico city. Huge difference in how the cars were proportioned when put together. One guy has an eye, the other does not. I'll leave it at that.
I'm not really the bandwagon type myself,.. but. I have whats left of a 59 moredoor that my pappaw totaled almost 40 years ago. I think there is enough good sheet metal left to do something like this. I'm planning on dragging it out of the hollar its been in real soon. I call it saving iron.
Yes...that seems like an good idea. I'd hate to see an whole Impala or Biscane get cut in half just to make an tub for an A-cowl.
He probably saw the LunarLander eBay auction hit almost $40k. That would give a lot of folks motivation to copy.
Personally, I like the concept and would consider building something similar using '60-'63 Falcon quarters and doors if I wasn't already busy prepping/rebuilding my old race car. Dirt trackin' will always come first... But what I sense here is a SEVERE case of buyer's remorse because there are at least two Chev roadsters and will likely be more. So build yours to be the best one ever! Build it a slanted Duvall style windshield, make the doors functional, add cycle fenders, make it a faux El Camino, Bellflower it or whatever style that you like best! Even if everyone here hates it, make it your own. I'll probably get slammed, but the posts that I dislike most are the "What color should I paint my rod?", What wheels should I use?" "What motor?" and such. It's almost as if some need HAMB approval before doing anything. There ain't a wrong way to build a rod or custom so long as YOU like it.. Jan
Chances that anyone can build anything that hasn't been done before is pretty remote, well unless it's so stupid there is a reason it hasn't been done. It's all about the spin you put on a given concept. If you want it, build it.
