Breaking 100 in old iron is no big deal. The fastest time I remember was in my '57 Chevy 2-door wagon. I put in a SB400 and was on the interstate one evening, no other cars around and dropped the accelerator to let it stretch. Started floating around 120. Eventually reached about 130 or 135 -- needle was jumping at this point and the car really floating bad -- I got in the middle of the two lanes because I didn't want to drift off the pavement. The small block was topping out -- I might've got 140+ out of it, but I chickened out and backed down.

  2. funny stufffs !:D

  3. My '31 Ford coupe had a 480 HP 289 but the speedo didn't work, it was scary fast.

Call me cynic, but a lot of "drivers" here don't or haven't posted up pics of the alleged tickets they recieved ,or witness statements etc proving the speeds attained.
Also,a genuine 100MPH is lot faster than the indicated speed and a damn site harder to reach than you think.
I have been well over the "ton" in my roadster when it was hemi powered( F.I. 331 >354 ,13-1 ,Isky track cam, balanced blah blah) and the best result in terms of sheer fun was when the trans jammed in first and I clocked 121 mph on lake gairdner.
Driving a roadster with open full face hemet motorcycle helmet is something you don't want to try...especially when the friggen thing fills with compressed air at 100 plus and you can see the front wheels skimming the salt..not actually running on the surface.

Then there is the matter of corrosion....

I've been past 100 in every car I've ever owned.

165 is the fastest I've ever driven (in my old Porsche 911c4).

My small block Chev. powered 39 ford had 4.11 gears and would top out at 110 or so. I once topped it out every night for a whole month, and was never even stopped while doing so. Now many years later, I am looking forward to driving it again, this time it has 3.10 gears it should go faster with a much older driver.

    104mph in 3rd gear with 4.10's.

My little 327 was singin' loud at 7300rpm!:D

  10. Many times in my coupe.

The fastest I have recorded was when I was 16... 144mph down St. Mary's Springs hill on HWY-23 heading into Fond du Lac.

    Nicest cop I ever met...

This was the car back then...

My old '59 TR3A would do about 111 mph...pretty scary with your elbow hanging over those cut down doors about 18" above the pavement...

110 in a 55 New Yorker 2 door hardtop with 4 other guys in the car coming back from a F5000 race at Pacific Raceways in 1968. Some guy and his wife pulled out in from of us in a Rambler 4-door and his eyes were the size of saucers when we went by in the other lane. The old New Yorker, and it's 331, was pretty good; a note in the owners manual said "...when operating for long periods in excess of 100mph, inflate tires to 32 psi". Wish I still had the engine.

My 61 Caddie was at about 140,thats what the guy next to me in a Saleen Supercharged Mustang hand signal to me before he pulled away  .She was taching 5500rpms,didn't want to push my 472 too much.Would of if I didn't have 3:21s in the rear and the short 225/70 tires, I think that would of put it around 3:73s.I would guess with the stock L78/15 tires with 3:08s it would have been interesting.....hmmm maybe in the 150-160 range? Stay tuned might try it

1960 Belair - speedo buried so often you'd think it was one of Rocket's bones!

  28. I can't resist this one...

Amarillo had a nice rural, straight stretch between Western Street and Ross Rogers Golf Course and no cops in the mid 1990's.....several 120+ runs in a stock 55 Pontiac with as many as 2 horrified passengers

Beat the pants off many a highschool buddy, their "chips" wouldn't let them get over 110.

Course I was young and dumb, with no seat belts and an all steel dash...good thing a cow never wandered out in front of us.

This quite often sees over the ton, Skimmer will vouch for it:eek: All original suspension and steering just slightly bigger front drums, not too sure how fast it would do because the prop vibrates at a 100mph but my best guess is about 115 maybe just over. Going to get that propshaft balanced one day
