I have done some searching and haven't found any solid answers.

What is the typical wall thickness on tube drop axles? And anyone know a place that will make just the tube with the bends in it? I am using outers from a Scout II on my Chopped Scout project, but I am looking for a drop tube.

I know someone with a tube bender where we could do it ourselves, but it is good for maybe 3/16" wall thickness MAX. I know the stock axle tubes on the Scout II are 1/4"

    TIA

The wall thickness on tube axles on street cars is often 1/4". Seamless mild steel tubing is fine.

    Sorry, I don't understand.

f you want a (complete) tube axle custom-made, that's a job for any good race car chassis builder. You can find links to lots of them here: http://www.roadsters.com/chassis/

If you want a piece of tubing with some existing ends welded on, fewer chassis builders may want to get involved with that. Call some.

    Thanks!
I think there is a racecar shop here in town, I will do some calling around, and checking out that link you provided.

I am just looking for new tube with the drop bends. I will install my out "C's" from the 2wd straight axle I have now.

If nothing else, you could buy a Ford/Chevy tube axle from Speedway Motors, or elsewhere, cut the spindle bosses off and weld your own ends on. It might be cheaper than custom work (?)

I had thought about that, but wasn't sure about the width's of those axles.

When I built the front end for my A model,I used 2" x 1/4" wall seemless tube that was bent by the local muffler shop, but the biggest problem was getting the two bends(for the 4" drop) close enough.Ended up making a mandrell with one end cut to fit the tube closer,it worked okay. Then when I welded the ends on, the ends were shaped to match, I had to have them x-rayed to pass the tech inspection. They then stamp a number on the axle so that it can be used on the road legally. Hope this helps, keep on roddin':)

MAS will custome build you an axel to any length with just about any drop up to 7". They come with the bat wings unwelded. I would assume you could call them and get what ever you wanted. Here is their web site. It looks like it may be down temporarily.
