Duvall windshield for 28/29A (Pics needed)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by paulatxntric, Oct 6, 2006.

  1. I bought a 28 A a couple of years ago and have had some real good fun out of it but....... it now needs some re-styling and i can feel a duvall/boat type windshield coming on. I have seen afew pics of them fitted to a 28/29 A but nothing i would really want to put on my car...Looks like I gotta fabricate sumat.
I need pics of duvall and boat type split windshields so I got sumat to work from, preferably some fitted to 28/29 As but anything will do as I gota fabricate it anyway. The biggest problem seems to be the raised lip at the edge of the cowl, any solutions or ideas would be great as I don't really want to cut it off as it would be real nice to switch the screens around just to confuse people and have different styles for different days!!!!
the same goes for the gas cap, Don't really want to fill it and loose the cap as I actually like it.....too much info with my preferences, I just need sumat to work from...
    .....pics please!

I love the way that windshield flows with the lines on the dodge.

I always liked this one from Schraders Speed Shop. (I know its a '30-'31, I'm not sure if they make one for a '28-'29.)

  8. Thanks for the pics.. may be getting hold of Steve pretty soon!

  9. How much is he asking for one of those screens, not practical to call from Australia. I have a DuVall screen for my 28 but I like the look of them too.
    Hmmm, decisions, decisions........

  10. I don't have one handy but somebody should post a pic of Mark Mortons Black '29 with a DuVall. It is a beautiful Rod. I too have a '28 roadster in the shop and am currently agonizing over the DuVall-vs-Hallock look. Glad this came up for discussion.

There isn't a Vee windshiled available for the '28-'29 body that looks as good as the Hallock, and Steve Sellers' is very close to being as good as Duke's originals. One of my good pals in high school bought one of Duke's roadsters in 1952, and I spent a great many hours and miles sitting atop a chopped seat, looking through that great windshield frame with my eyes just a few inches higher than the top of the cowl. The windshield worked so good, spilling air over the top and well outside the edges of the ****pit that the car was comfortable on the highway even in nighttime cold weather.

George DuVall designed his iconic windshield for rounded cowls with blended door tops, and not for the abrupt door/cowl demarcation of the '28-'29 body, for which it just looks wrong. He did design a Vee windshield for that body in 1929 and actually built one for his own '29 roadster. It's likely that the windshield on George's roadster might have been the inspiration for Duke's windshield design. Both men were part of the SoCal car scene at the time, and George was most definitely an influential mover and shaker in his day.

This is the only image I have of George's roadster, from a snapshot his son Gregory loaned me. It's a very cool and smart-looking sporty-car for its time.

  16. I saw an ebay entry with aluminum castings for around a hundred bucks. Seller said they were just rough castings, and not a perfect match to any particular car, and would require fitting. I may have saved a link to their website, gotta look for it.

on the phone steve sellers told me 795 for the windsheild with surfaced edges and the gl*** groove cut in...you can get a raw casting for 495
shipping he said was 25...this is a 2 piece deal surfaced to match perfect...so you've either gotta weld or make brackets...i think he has a rubber insulator included along with gl*** templates

im ***uming shipping to australia would be more

You do get what you pay for, Steves windshields are quality pieces. And there solid aluminum. He's very maticulous about everything from the finish to the fit of every one that comes out of the shop. Phil
