My 11 year old daughter likes to suit up in a work apron, gloves, and eye protection, and s****e crud. Last time she wanted to clean the inside/undersides of the mighty big fenders on my 38 Chrysler! There's a job I'm happy to turf out...

Hahaha just found the answer to my question "what are you going to do with your free time?"
Going to have to rename you Mr Bumbles (of Oliver Twist fame) now you've found a new labour force.
How far are you going with the Pontiac?

All the time, he will work all afternoon for a burger fries and a shake. He cranked out the set of lowering blocks for my 52 poncho last summer... he likes the noise, sparks and throws a pretty good weld for a 9 year old.

Hell yeah! I use my kids whenever I possibly can. Especially whenever I have those place where my big 'ole meat beaters won't fit! Had my 14 y/o daughter in the garage the other day putting the radiator hold down nuts on the bolts on my full fendered RPU. Took her awhile since these were the first one's she ever did, but she got the job done, and made it easier on me.

She's got a '79 Camaro that her Papa (my dad) gave to her, and we're going to build that for her to drive when she turns 16. That is, however, if she gets out of this *****ic phase she's in right now! Damned 14 year old teenagers!

My 7 year old loves to help as well. He's usually happy just standing there handing me dropped tools or nuts or bolts whenever I'm on my back or otherwise cannot reach them.

Child labor? You bet! This is a lad-n-dad project, so my son, age 14, is turning wrenches, too. Here's a pic of him helping dismantle our Model A project.

My 11 year old daughter helps me sand and clean parts. She soon loses interest and then I cant get her to concentrate on the project.
I appreciate her help, this year she says she will do more.

My brother had me tearing apart his drivers when I was 12...he worked out of town and he;'d leave me with instructions. I tore down his '60 Morris Minor for a valve job, carried the head to the machine shop in my wagon, got it back and re***embled the engine. He got home and helped set the valves and get it running.

Then I did the same for his straight eight Buick...

my 13 year old brother is coming out this summer, he does poorly in school, gets in a little bit of trouble, not too much and seems to have no direction but he does have an interest in working on cars so I'm looking forward to getting him out in the garage this summer and seeing if I can get him interested in something and get him going in the right direction. I've got plenty of projects to keep us busy.

My only "child," an 8 year old Terrier mix, isn't much help in the garage. He tries to catch the sparks in his mouth when I am grinding...

Like thecarfarmer, I grew up helping the old man, though. I was the child labor.

Yea, I make the 11 year old kid do the yard work so I can play with the cars.

Actually he's not too interested in really working on them but my 3 year old daughter loves cars. She points out the cool ones when we are riding around and plays with hot wheels all day.

Not only that but she's figured out how to work a rachet and put the sockets on. That makes for alot of loose bolts around the house. When she sees me work on anything, it's "me help". Gearhead in the making.

My 4-year-old loves to help in the garage, so my wife uses it as bribery. "You can't help daddy till you clean your room!"

My grandaughter always wants to help and try to let her when ever I can. She actualy has been a help a couple of times with those little hands placing a bolt where I could. I would let my son help when he was young and now its p***ed to his boys too.

Not only do I use them at my place, I farm them out! Ask Lucky77 about this weekend's thrash at his place (another post some where here)

Amazing what they'll do for a hot dog and a burger!

When I was a kid, my dad had me doing the sanding and painting on one of his 39 chevy's. I also replaced all the wood (oak)in his 34 Olds 2dr sedan in woodshop at school.

When I bought my T, I had my son help tear it down to the bare frame sand and repaint everything going back together.
