I was 18 and driving my first car - a 1941 Super Deluxe Coupe when my girl and I were parked in a Walmart parking lot. She'd just slid across the front seat and I was sitting down when this fat, butt ass ugly, greasy, trailer trash lookin' woman in a raggedy old Ford wagon (late '70s/early '80s) opened her door and slammed it into my passenger side door. Now, there was a good 2 1/2 feet between us, so her door had to be opened all the way to hit mine. I looked over at her - pissed but willing to let it go - and she looked at me like "What? What are you going to do about it?".

Well, I got out, walked around my car and inspected the door at this point. I noticed about a 4" diameter dent from where her door hit me. I looked at her and she still had that "what are you going to do?" look on her jowly quadruple chinned face. Well, I bent over and braced my hands against my car and MULE KICKED her door. Left my size 11 sized dent there too.
May not have been the right thing to do, but that was bullshit.

Three things in my life ya don't fuck with - my Family, my vehicles, and my food. Anything else I can let slide. Mess with those three things, and this old country boy gets a wee bit upset.

Thats crazy!!! Tatoo and old cars have somthing in common. People want to talk to you about them. Now, im a pretty nice guy, but i was in the grocery store the other day when this woman, who was behind me in line, grabs my arm and proceeds to gawk at my arm. my first reaction when i felt the clammy grip was yank my arm back and see WTF this strangers problem was. But to find a stranger pawing my ride... I'd snap.

People lose all sence of manners very quick. they forget their place and feel the need to shell out thier $.02. Like Degreaser said. Old timers are a different story. i love to talk to them about past cars and local rodding legands. but to have some dude under my hood.... oh man! i dont know how you kept your cool.

I live in the country and leave my house unlocked (granted i have a big dog!) and although my handles are shaved i leave my windows down when i run into a store. ill be think twice from now on.

thanx for sharing this bizzare story.

Dude, you gotta give a few 70+yr old pokin fun at your tilt wheel and carb some slack haha.

if they were able to drive when my car came out and know what a carb is, they are more than welcome to plop their ass in my drive seat providing they haven't shit their pants.

I am not a 100% sure but I belive you can install anothrt lock in the drivers door. I am a retired locksmith and I have installed extra locks in drivers doors for customers . look at the latch assembly see if is is the reverse of the passanger latch. it will probubly lock if you move a lever or do what ever makes the lock work on passanger door.
The locks were origonaly made by Briggs & Stratton. looh for a locksmith that specialise in old car locks theye can rekey lock to match pass door.

^^^ along those lines, you could add a solenoid w/ a remote to lock and unlock both sides and not have to put anything visible in place.

i always go out of my way to show my car to people who are interested. especially folks older than me. i have been late to work on a few occasions because of this. i even put up with the ones that said they had one just like it, only it was a ...(whatever).and had a different motor. but getting in my car when i'm not there? since he was 70+ i would have at least politely told the man i didnt appreciate him going into my car, or lifting my hood without permission. if he was younger there woulda been a fight for sure.
think about it, it's no different than a guy walking past your house seeing your television and deciding to chill on your couch and "check it out." it doesnt matter if the door is locked or not. he should have enough decency to wait 'till you return to the car and then ask if he can look inside. some people really upset me that they cant keep thier hands off of things, and to think i'm about to put a hoodless car on the road.......

I cam back back to my car at local show, only to find a guy sitting in the seat of my car!!! That was the last time I took my car to that show.

  10. Well I've got electric windows so I might as well have electric locks.
I'm using the original latches though. Anybody have any luck putting solenoids on 34 Ford type locks? I also like the idea of a switch on the hood sides. Maybe make it activate the horns inless deactivated. As far as the old dudes looking I don't have a problem with that. I'll talk cars with anybody for hours whether they are in the know or not. Its just when they decide that the parking lot is a used auto mart and they can play with anything they want I have a problem. I'll gaurantee you that if they done the same thing to a new Cadillac, Mercedes or Lexus (or any new car for that matter) the owner would not have been nearly as forgiving.

Gotta admit I have kicked a few car doors too after their owners let their doors hit my car.
The general public seems to not have any idea how much time, and money it takes to fix up a hot rod. To them it's just an old car that isn't worth anything.
I get a lot of pleasure letting kids look at my car, and try to let them look and touch, but under my supervision.
Anyone raising the hood or getting into the car without permission is a different situation, and would call for a completely different reaction. Kinda like my wife's mood ring when it leaves an ugly red mark on my head when she is extremely upset with me!!!

My daily driver is a beater '62 Suburban. In the last year, I've come out of stores and noticed the hood not latched all the way several times.

What REALLY pisses me off though, is to come out of work and see the hood not latched all the way. I work at Year One, and with 140 employees, we have EASILY over 325 enthusiast cars among us...not counting parts cars. So either fellow employees or customers are getting a look under the hood. It's not easy to open, and I'm sure they don't want to slam it shut, which is why I've found it that way a couple times.

I had a teacher in high school get a door ding in a parking lot, and the asshole who did it looked at him and said "Hey, it's in a private parking lot...the cops can't do anything about it. What are ya gonna do?"

Mr. Wright walked over to his door, kicked it in and said "Hey, it's a private parking lot. What are ya gonna do?" Other things I'd seen and heard him do lead me to totally believe that story.

Sometimes you can learn a lot from a teacher.

I must drive ugly cars. Never had this happen to me.

Mom always taught me never to touch a car you didn't have permission to touch, and even then, be as gentle as possible. I'm the same as one of the previous posters, whenever I walk over to look at someones cars, my hands automatically go to my pockets or behind my back.

Not sure WHAT I'd do if someone was under my hood or in the seat of my car. Thats pretty bold.

It would probably be relatively easy to install a toggle switched horn relay to go off when the hood sides were opened. You might be able to use either a door pin switch or a brakelight switch, pump the 'lectricity through a turn signal flasher and you've got an instant pulsing horn.

However, I'd be worried if it startled them they would do one of two things: 1) drop the hood and damage the car and/or the hood itself, or 2) drop dead, damaging the hood or the car itself.
