with a '32 shell... I know someone had offered a killer deal on them. And do you guys have any pics of how much shorter yours are? Sam.
The best deal I have found is the one speedway offers they are 4 1/2" shorter. they have a trans cooler built in and are made by Ron Davis Racing. They are not the cheepest . they sell for 599.95 in the catalog. But I'm a dealer I can check tomarrow how much cheeper I can get one for.If you want call me at the shop and I will check. It's going on my buddy Steve's Model A... I'm thinking a 3" chopped one might be right. Sam. The car is unchopped now... but will eventually look like this:
I just ordered a Walker from Rodparts in Bettendorf Iowa. Good prices..$100 off list or about $50 cheaper than Speedway on the 4 cores. I haven't received it yet, should be here in a week or so. You'll find cheaper but do some research here about manufacturer's and the quality/prices available. After much research, I decided to get the best I could find the first time around. You don't want to screw around when it comes to the cooling system.
The radiator that Ron Davis makes is is nicer than a Griffin for a 32 shell. Because Griffin uses stamped tanks and the Ron davis uses a thick aluminum fabracated tank. We have put them in a few cars and have had no problems. Scott
2" chop for a '30-31, and had to shim it up a tad to get a nice hood line. Just got a 2" chop for this roadster - www.honestcharley.com $620 for the top-line Walker.
That one looks a bit too high for my tastes. When they get that high, they tend to look like they are going up hill when you look at the car from a rear 1/4 shot. It's an optical illusion. Some people may disagree... but hey, that's what makes each car differnt. Sam.
I know how everyone hates e-gay but I bought a new aluminum rad for $400 last year from the place in Ohio that does race car stuff. it was a "blem", and what that ment was a couple of the fins were bent, I had to look hard to find em. It gets too hot to drive here in August but the car never gets over 170, no ****. They called it a T radiator. It fit perfectly in my coupe and looks like it was made for the 38 olds grill.
Sam, we hashed this over in a longish post that's in the archives. I did the initial post and it evolved into a discussion on hood line and grille shell height. 1st pic is a 3/4 rear view of the grille shell down to where it fits right for a 2" chopped radiator. 2nd one shows the car in poorly done photoshop blue paint, but it gives you a good idea of the side view with a 2" chopped radiator. 3rd shot shows where the grille shell sits with a 1" chopped radiator in place . . . didn't work on this car, but the 1" chopped rad gives you a good hood line on the 32's. 4th is a 3/4 front view with the 2" chopped radiator. 5th is a 3/4 rear view, still setup for the 2" chopped radiator. The top is from the 32, being tried on for size. Good fit since the 31 & 32 have virtually the same ****pit measurements except the 32 is 2" deeper. (More on that if you wish.) Imo, 32 tops set up for the A's make for a better looking top due to the lean forward of the rear vertical drop where the rear window goes. 6th & last shows an adjustable bracket so you can alter the height of the grille shell and see how things look.
Here's the blue 'paint' pic. As you've found, Walker makes a 1" & 2" chopped radiator. US Radiator may make a 2" chopped radiator, the radiator I had in the car was a new US Radiator chopped 1", but it didn't quite make it hood-line-wise.
