call and see if you can stop in at troy trepaniers shop in manteno, its worth the drive from chi-town. theyre pretty good about letting people come into the shop and take pics and all. good bunch of guys there and always top of the line cars.

  4. Come by my house and swap engines in my Rambler. :D ;)

Hot Rod Ch***is is in Addison and I'm sure there's a few cool projects brewing there.

Midwest Hot Rods out in Plainfield...about 20 minutes from the city. Tons of cars out there, and some that will knock your socks off. Call Justin at 815-254-7637 for directions.

There's an amazing car museum up North. Seems like it was near Libertyville, off the big highway (294) that leads to Milwaukee. Aha, found it, here's the link. I think it's about 30-45 min from downtown.

Close on the Volo museum. It's (almost) at the corner of RT 120 and Rt 12. I havn't been there in years, but I used to run the parking when they had their auctions. Plus, they've got five big ***ed shops filled with antiques. Lots of lame ****, but some really cool stuff if you look close.

Depending on how far out you want to go, there's also Abomber30's shop (Marty & Sons) in Sycamore and Hopperstad Customs in Belvidere

  13. To be honest, Volo struck me as a glorified used car lot, with overpriced autos everywhere, most not displayed to best effect.
The majority of autos displayed were from the late 50's to early 70's, with a special emphasis on "movie cars" like the DeLorean from "Back to the Future" and some Batmobile from some BatMovie.
But that's all we got, sorry.
    May IS better...

P.S. OCM - you need a hand with that Rambler, let me know. I'm not that far away.

If you are in downtown Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry is absolutely the coolest museum with the U505 Submarine, the Burlington Zephyr train, lots of other cool trains, airplanes, some great and historically significant automobiles (including the 1929 1750 Alfa TT winner), and loads of other neat things that appeal to the mechanically minded.-GZ

Oh yeah, gotta see the U 505! I saw it more than 10 years ago and it was awesome! I heard they moved it and opened up more to the tour.

PS. I know someone who as a kid got kicked out for going up in the conning tower!

one time when i was there they had the Spirit of America there that Craig Breedlove ran at the salt. the big 3-wheeler that he drove off into the lake at the end of the track when something went wrong. fortunately, the lake was only a few feet deep.

best museum i've ever been to.

Troy Tepanier shop in Manteno to the south of Chicago, away's out. Midwest Hot Rods in Plainfield take I-55 West out of Chicago to Illinois 126 Exit (Less then a hour except in rush hour.) About two miles on the left, If you go over the railroad tracks you went to far.

The Giant Stainless Steel Lima Bean on Michigan ave, No Kidding.
Lake Michigan's Lakefront. The Magnificent Architecural Wonder of the city.

The Museum's near downtown Shed Aquarium, Adler Planetrium, Soldier Field DA BEARS ! It's next to one of my favorite's The Field Museum of Natural History, a Beautiful site at night all lite up. Heading down Lake Shore Drive. Watch your SPEED.

The best is the Museum of Science & Industry. The last bldg. from The World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. The Largest World's Fair in the History of the World, Bar None! A lot of Hands on Exibits.

Featured Attraction's there are * U-505 GERMAN SUB. The BURLINGTION ZEPHYR. A COAL MINE. WORLD WAR TWO AIRPLANES . MORE THEN YOU CAN SEE IN A DAY, THIS GOES FOR ALL THESE PUBLIC PLACES. Choose what interest's You ! It's My Hometown.

I DON'T MISS THE PARKING, YOU'LL FIND OUT. HARD TO FIND IN PLACES. GOOD LUCK !
