Just wanted to stop in & say hello, I'm new to the forum & new to old school hot rods. This past weekend I picked up a '34 International truck that I'll be building a rod out of. This will be my first build up of an old car so it will be a learning experience. I am planning on keeping my costs down as much as possible & trying to do all the work myself or maybe with the help of a few friends in exchange for beer/pizza/bugers or steaks from the grill. My past experiences have mostly been with later model vehicles. I started out turning wrenches on my first ride which was a '79 Chevy truck. I just started off doing stuff that needed to be done & I couldn't afford to pay anyone so I got my step dad to show me....once I got into it though, I enjoyed doing my own work, especially after seeing the crap work that people did for hard earned money....they always say if you want it done right.... Well, some time goes by & I get a '98 Mustang...it was a fun car, but honestly, it was a turd...way too slow compared to the rival Camaro & Trans Am pony cars on the street with similar mods....so I traded it in for a '98 SS & was very happy for the most part. After that I got my '02 Trans Am which I still have today with only 11,600 on the ticker. It's ran high 10's in the 1/4 as a full weight street car with AC & full interior. As much fun as the Trans Am has been, I'm wanting to build something myself that is what I want and not just something that rolled off the line. I'll post some photos up when I get home...at the office now. Well, hope to meet a few like minded folks & maybe see you guys at some of the meets. Also, if you are in the Houston area, feel free to post up, I'm usually always up for hanging, out turning wrenches, & drinking a couple cold ones.
I was just over there yesterday dropping off the car hauler my bud let me use to bring my '34 home with. That place is really booming since the last time I'd been over that way! So, does So.ATX stand for South Austin, TX? I was born not too far outside Austin in a little town called Rockdale...about 45 min from Austin.
I also live sorta behind the mall in Heritage Park. Glad I got some folks close to me, I may need some advice here & there, maybe I can buy some beer & you guys can give me some.....but before we drink too much, lol. Also, Capone's Pizza Pub delivers to my place & they have some of the best pizza in this area
After getting it on the car dolly & getting on a creeper to do some closer inpsection, I'll need the luck, lol. ALL of the brackets on this thing need to be rewelded. The only thing that will suck is if I can't grind them off & reuse the ones that have the bungs for the radius arms. I'm sure I can be creative & do it better though so, I'm sure it will all work out in the end.
I'm was one of the boys in the 'Wood, I grew up in Friendswood. I live in Texas City now, but I will be in the Friendswood working on H.A.M.B.er Kisam's '66 Chevy truck, getting ready fior Roundup. It's pretty nice, she(yes, she) painted it in her garage! Black, to boot!
Well, if you maybe need an extra hand or want someone else there to help drink some beer, lol, let me know I'll drop by & lend & hand & maybe learn a thing or two. Be nice to meet some new gear heads in the area since the ones I used to hang out with really don't do much anymore...most of em sold their rods. Thanks for the welcome guys! Wish I could make it to the roundup but already have prior plans & tickets for something else.
