    Alf,

I'm sorry about my negative post earlier, I could have been more creative with my criticism. I'm actually a little embar***ed, because I didn't expect this to become a ****-throwing fest, especially when you're just trying to show off your hard work.

I really like the truck, and the motivation behind building it. Others have already stated that it's got a good look and vibe going, and I agree too.

It's just that darn little import motor that drives me nuts. To me, that's the heart of the car, and a cool little car like yours needs a cool mill. It ain't my car, so it doesn't really matter, but I just thought I'd voice my opinion.

Good luck with the car, you're doing great, and keep us updated!!

    Scott

Damn Job stealin Money robbin Companies like honda. idk if that will be reliable though cuz i had a 95 maxima with a v6 and it was a mechanical *** hole once it hit 100k miles. It was one thing after another on that motor.

"acceptable to true hotrodding, no way"?????

That's funny. "True hotrodding" was and is all about taking what you had available, building something with it, and running it. Looks to me like that's exactly what he's doing.

As far as what the pioneers would have said? I bet if Roth saw how much it pissed people off, he'd probably laugh & say "great work kid".

George Barris road raced a Jag XJ120.

Winfield used Citroen DS suspension and gearbox in the Reactor.

Roth used a lot of VW parts ( and I think he owned a Civic too )

Jeffries customised a Porsche, and used a Maserati Ch***is for his Manta Ray.( and I think he striped & lettered Dean's Porsche spider...)

Sure I owned a Honda and a nissan before but did I call it a hot rod...hell no! Seems like some states out there ran out of flatheads. In Southern California(the birthplace of hot rods) most of us would die laughing at your abomination and tell you to go watch the fast and the furious! Aww skrew it, Im gonna get into import tuners instead, those asian chicks are hot!

    Hello Alf -
    Your car looks great!
Keep us advised as progress continues.

    The V-6; who cares.
The unique style and clever design of your car is what counts.
Here's a picture of my V6 Ford Capri powered car, and that engine works just fine.

    Good Luck - Steve Grimes

I do like scratch/partially-scratch built cars. And yeah, he took an old abused body, some rather aesthetically ***embled parts, and put together an Hot Rod. V6? Who cares? (Someone else already used that line...haha) I'm pretty sure that these cars are never finished.

Point is, its one more hot rod, and one more tree-attacked body that is no longer rusting.

Hot rodding means different things to different people, and it always has. Thank God.

    I like your car.

Any chance you wanna tell us what kinda money you have into the project?

Notice...small block, surronded by some randomly ***embled junk.

Its all about an tasteful execution. If something goes together well...than its just "right".

do chevy 6 lug have the same bolt battern as the nissan rear?? if so some 16" 42-48 chevy stellies would be great.

lets see,,,he's out in the garage bulding something neat on the cheap and actually getting soemwhere,,
.....and you guys are on the computer *****ing about the motor,

you ever notice how the guys who have ACTUALLY built and build 'true' traditional styled cars are never *****ing about stuff not being traditional...

Looks like a lot of hard work and from the sounds of it its gonna scream along with good gas mileage. As for the engine choice to each there own and if I was to give my opinion about the choice of engines in peeps cars most 80% of this board would hate me. Looks cool man

Can I get an amen!! Preach it! :D :D :D

  20. Neat ride, and as stated before cool stance considering you sit IN it....

    =]

    Respect.

  21. This keeps going to political ********. The hot rodders "back in the day"were war vets. The cars above are from our allies, except Germany. And how can we stay mad at them? They aren't hurting anyone anymore, they put out superior products. Asian products, well...

I'm not sure what you are trying to say.
But that list of cars were made in 5 Countries, 3 of them were not our allies...

It would be a lot better to keep Politics out of it.

  23. Some of you narrow-minded-self-appointed keepers of all that is traditional-know-it-alls better brush up on your "traditional" homework. Roth used LOTS of different, oddball power plants for his rods. Do a little checking on some of his cars...Surfite, Road Agent, Rotar, Globe Hopper, L.A. Zoom, Stealth 2000. We won't even get into the motors for the trikes he built. You want the kid to put a "cooler" motor in HIS ride...BUY IT FOR HIM, then DELIVER IT TO HIM. Or shut up and build something "cooler".

Build on, Alf, build on.

Cool project, and excellent fabrication on the floor and cowl. That's a whole lotta bending and notching. As far as the drivetrain, well it wouldn't have been my weapon of choice but who cares, it's his money and his car I'm just glad guys my age and younger are still interested in BUILDING something of their own. You know restorers look down their noses at hot rodders the exact same way the "traditionalists" were looking down their noses trashing this guy's car. Build, learn, have fun. That's what it's all about.

Having "come up" in the 60s, I can guarantee that if we could have found a 160 h.p., ohc, alum. v6 engine, we would have been on it like stink on ****, and it could have made on Mars for all anybody cared.
Traditional ? We didn't know no "traditional" we built with what we had.

How many 20 year olds do you know that have accomplished something this nice? I admire him for his courage to come here as well as his skill in fabrication. Good job Alf! As for a Japanese motor I might use one if that was what I had available and money was short. As for quality built products from Asia, I have an old 300Zx with 250K miles on the original engine and it consumes less than a pint of oil between changes. I've been working on old cars (30's and 40's) for more than 35 years and I've seen only a few crastsmen in that time and a whole lot of bench builders and whiners. I think this young man will change over time and make different choices when he builds his next car. Encourage him and any other young person taking an interest. Or would you rather chase them all off to a Tuner club and let hotrods die a slow death?

You're in California, and have the audacity to ask that question?
