heres the question for you guys. im not really the biggest fan of these body styles but i got one for free for my girl. just curious as to what year it is. the body style o the 61-63 ranchero. hood is 61 style but had a V8 in it. the floor has been modified so it would be my guess that it had an engine swap. car is painted white but in some places it is chipping off. the fenders have red and the doors and hood have black. tail lights have no back up lights. just want to find a way that i can find out what it is. any vin # experts. would take a pic but the only camera i have is my cell phone so the pictures are shit. thanks guys.
I am not a vin expert but if you were to post if I am sure I could find out for you the problem is all these years I spent developing my automotive and computer skills I slacked in my ESP/astral projection whatever you wanna call it training and dont know what the vin is so maybe if you post it i can help thanks alot!
the falcon and mustang had the vin on the drivers side inner fender panel in front of the shock on 64 and up models the earlier one had a tag on the drivers door and as far as I know that was it. Ford figured change a door and loose the vin so they stamped it on the inner fender hope this helps you out
If there is a data plate on it or a number on the fender, the first digit will be the year. 0 = 1960, 1 = 1961, etc.
the vin tag on the inside of the door was painted over. i scratched off the paint, white, then red, then black and the top numbers were 1R27U106357. so does this mean that the doors are 61? any changes in emblems or tail lights?
The only real difference between `60 and `61 is the grille and tail light lens. The fenders and hood are the same between them . Hope this helps, Gasserman
1R27U106357 1 = 61 R = Assembly Plant 27 = Falcon Ranchero U = 170 CID 6 Cylinder 106357 = Consecutive unit number Hope this helps...Tom - restorit
is there a website that i could've look this info up on? i googled it and it didnt work. just for future references. thanks.
There are a lot of decoder sites on the internet. One is: http://www.decodethis.com/ To find others use the search terms "VIN" "decode" and the model name of the car you want to decode.
Is it wrong that I knew what those numbers decoded to without looking it up? BTW "R" is for San Jose, California.
If you're interested in changing to disc brakes or anything like that just follow the Mustang web sites on the early 'stangs. All the suspension and such is the same. The 'stang is on a slightly shorter Falcon pan.
