I'm bagging the 54 with the stock front end, so while I'm in there I'm rebuilding the front end. The inner bar for the upper control arm won't come out. Do I need to get a spanner wrench for this washer to get it out? (see pic) If so how come my new inner bar doesnt come with these washers? And where can I get a spanner wrench that will fit if I need one? Thanks
that "washer" is welded to the spring tower, the shaft threads into it, you need to heat the threaded shaft first, that will help break the bond, then do something like double nut it, put a big ***ed vise grip on the threads, or even weld a nut onto the threads to unscrew the threaded shaft. it's a ***** to do.
According to the book I have it says there is a special tool for the job "upper control arm remover and repacer" (pt# J-2958). I don't have one but I hope this helps out a little.
No I want to know how I'm supposed to remove it since I got 2 opposite answers, you dont have to be a ****
i wasn't being a ****. both answers are right, and both are pretty much the same but you ain't gonna find the factory tool.
The double nut plan is going to be your best option man. There is a photo of the tool being used and it almost looks llike that anyway. **** it! Give it a shot.
