I'm an FNG. Been reading HAMB for a while.

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by northern skink, Mar 30, 2007.

  1. I have a 1950 Mercury 2dr sedan. Original/Stock except for the paint, and the interior, which has new upholstery. I don't think the upholstery is correct. The gas tank leaks when filled beyond half. The heating/def selector is stuck, and the blower selector moves but fails to eleicit any reaction from the blower motor. Or is it the other way around. In any case, she runs, turns, stops and shines. I have to get a digital camera and post a photo.

If anyone has any ideas as to how to troubleshoot the fuel leak problem before removing the tank and without blowing onesself up, I'd be interested to hear about it.

My intentions for the car are to fix what's inoperative, run it, learn from it, and sell it to finance a project. My top candidate would be a clover green 49 - 53 Stude half ton, just like the 49 Grandpa had on his dairy farm.

I've enjoyed reading the HAMB and applaud the supportive and upbeat discussions.

Howdy Yankee boy! The heater control's have cable's that when removed can be soaked (day's) w/ Kroil, WD-40,ect. and slowly worked free again. Lube all the moving part's pertaining to the Heat, Def control's. Sound's like the tank has some hole's. Mabe around or behind the strap's that retain it. Use comon sense and no heat. Soak the nut's and hardware that hold the strap's in place. Locate a replacement tank or someone very skilled at this type of repair in your area. Welcome to to the H.A.M.B.
