I'm looking for opinions.....gee..that should be tough around here!!!...anyways...here is the chassis mockup again of my triumph...the specs are as follows. 35degree neck, one inch under tubes,, 19 inch front wheel, 16 rear. I bought the frame already raked and I think it balances with the longer bolt on rigid section. The seat can go either way..sprung solo, or something like in the pic. Gonna have low bars and the sportster tank has had the tunnel deepened so it sits level....go ahead and let the opinions flow!!!

the ass-end looks heavy. I would go with an 18" rear

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is that your rear wheel is on backwards. [IMG]

I think it looks good...there's nothing wrong with the longer hardtail section (that's what mine has). However, I would prefer a 21" wheel on front...although the Akront style rim is kinda cool. Have you tried moving the tank forward a bit to see how it looks? And maybe a sprung seat?

Looks like you're on the right track. Are you shooting for an era, or just building with what you've got? The rear wheel kinda says post-'71 to me (conical hub).

That's the first time I've ever liked a Sportster tank on a Triumph. Damn.

Also, I agree with the fella's that are recommending the 18" rear and 21" front.

    Ed

PS- My vote's for the sprung solo seat.

i think the reason the ass end looks heavy is because of the conical hub. i like the 16" wheel on it though, suits it well. i like the style of seat in the pic for that bike too. works better with the longer lines. spring seats look better on stubby/bobber bikes to me

i did'nt read all that crap you wrote HATCH but i like the profile and stance you got goin there. i love those Triumph CHOPPAS!!!

  7. I love it!

I think the 16" rear looks good with a 19" front... and the level tank is refreshing.

I have an idea in my head as to what mine is going to look like... and the more people talk and refine the looks of these bob's... the closer you're getting to what I have in my head! [IMG] Great minds think alike, for sure!

Anyway, I like the seat, the deep tunnel tank, the wheel selection... it all seems to flow real nice.

I have two basket cases....so the rear wheel can be an early hub and a 400x18 steel(already laced), or the cone 16 in the pic...I could also go the akront style and may go with both wheels in aluminum 18 and 19. I also have a twenty one steel rim, so I do have options. The other frame will have a homemade shorty tail section and stock rake...I guess the main concern is if I should de-rake the neck on this one or leave it as it is...I kinda like it, but I also like the stock rake....not worried about the work, but I want to be sure. ...and Bass..I'm not shooting for any particular era on this bike...just good looks. The other one will be speedway style.

    Nothing really.

I was talking about Mr. Midnight's suggestion of an 18" rim. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

18" and 19" alloys would be cool, use the early rear hub for sure, and a lockheed disc/caliper up front for a cool early 70's drag bike look.

  13. Question for all you Triumph aficionados... where can you buy 18" tires that are wider than the stock Triumph tires yet still retain the bias ply looks? Maybe a web site?

  14. Hatch:
I'm pretty much at the same stage with mine and I'm stuck with my OIF frame. I like your frame better. Being nit picky, I like the horizontal tube under the tank. If it were mine, I'd have the bottom of the tank meet that tube half-way exposing the bottom half. Are you going to beef up the fender mounts or add some supports for the fender?
I think that hardware also affects the look. I like the big rear tire and 16" wheel. To me it adds to the Hot Rod look. More muscular, like a drag bike. I kind of like your seat that way. Something different from the sprung solo.

Dan..when I got the pile, the lower tube was cut out...I put it back. I like the idea of the tube being half exposed..I'll try it. The fender mount will probably be small diameter roundstock.

Well...maybe a whitewall on the back...and one color candy...who knows??

  18. My take on it would be a 21" sulky wheel up front,a set of clip-ons,and either just the front pipes or a set of TT pipes running up one side.Polish the tank and paint a J.A.P. logo on it.A flat-tracker for the street!

I like the stance. it will look much better with the 16" wheel out back once you have more things hung on the bike.... I would use a spring le pera seat for just a bit of suspension though...

I like what ya got so far...I'd mount up a set of drag bars, a slick out back and a hot Trumpper with open pipes. Leave the rake as-is and paint the tin heavy gold flake and the frame dark metallic brown.

Custom stitched small solo seat covered in a rich brown leather...

...and if it has to have lights, keep 'em small and minimalistic.

    Just a bad ass digger!

I like it the way it is,including the black wall tires.
It will look different with the motor installed,so I would wait to finalize the tank location.

I played around with the tank tonite and I like the idea of raising it to show half the tube, but sliding it forward doesn't seem to do much for me....I like the open area in front of it.

one more thought on the wheels, either do both alloy or both steel. Mixing looks like you changed directions mid-stream. Is that front an Akront? Looks more like a Borrani

I agree on not mixing wheel type. This is just a mockup for OD of the wheel and tire mix. The final set will match in material...the front wheel and fork setup is yamaha(hahaha)!!!.
