Hi. I'm a newbie. I currently know nothing; but, am hoping to learn alot from you guys. My boyfriend bought me a 1927 T Roadster Pickup and I am going to try to build a little hot rod out of it from the frame rails up. I like the idea, but am a little daunted by the task. This will be my first and hopefully not my last hot rod build. I will post pictures as I get them.
A little background on me: I've only welded once (on a trailer fender and it didn't turn out too good since the wind was blowing and I couldn't see through the mask very well). I'm hoping to get better at the whole welding thing before I try to put the frame together. I have done body work before (I've been told that the jeep is a "good twenty-footer"). I've yet to try my hand at painting or pin striping but hope to do both with this project. I am going to be helping my dad chop, nose, deck, and lower his 1951 2-Door Merc. We'll also be doing a full chassis and engine swap (not quite sure which chassis or motor he wants to go with yet). I've always been interested in cars/trucks/motorcycles, pretty much anything with wheels. I never had the opprotunity to work on them much, except with my dad. He's the one that would let me hang out in the garage while he worked on stuff. He's the one that brought me to my first car show. He's the one that tells me I can do anything (even if I mess it up the first five times). :)
P.S. My Boyfriend is going to be helping me ALOT (whether he knows it or not!) :)

I'm in the same boat as you Tiffer... mine's a '26 RPU, and where I can weld and paint, the task of building a driver from the ground up has me a bit nervous. But I've already met a lot of great people and have my pile O' parts nearly complete so the fun is soon to begin. God luck!

Here is one pic of the car still on the trailer. I'll submit more, just wanted to make sure I was doing this right.

You are just fine there little missy.......any girl with a purple T is more then welcome here. 8>)
I do hope you plan doing a real work over on that ride?

Don't let this first time rodeo be a stumbling block. Ground up do overs are a great way to get aquainted with your ride. I always do the ground up resto on all my old rides. This is what makes the hobby so much enjoyable. It goes for everyone new to this disease.....nothing like having nitro in your viens and grease under the nails.

Thanks for all the encouragement! Here is a picture of what we are actually going to use from the car. We took it off the frame because the frame looks like it was made from basketball poles and didn't look like it would handle the stress of a real motor; so we are going to make a new frame from 11 guage 2x3 tubing. By the way, after looking through what seems like 20 or so magazines and parts catalogs, I have found out that the body and bed are the 1927 model and the fenders are 1925 model. Leave it to me to pick a Frankenstein....

  10. Welcome aboard. Don't sweat it, they're all Frankensteins by the time you get done with them anyway. Nobody here is interested in 100 point restorations. If it doesn't fit right, just beat it with a blunt instrument until it does. More Pictures!

Here are some "pre-work" pictures. Still on the trailer. Like I said before, we have actually removed the body from the frame... It's just taking me a while to get all the pictures together. Sorry for the delay.....
