Im saying this as sort of a buyer beware and to rant about how bad things are going. If any of yous are doin a 60-65 Chevrolet truck you are more then likely going to have rust in the cab. Rocker, floor, kick panels, cab corners, stuff like that. Well, my truck had to have all this do to it. The cab was in pretty sorry shape after a botched body job by someone else that was so bad its almost ridiculous. But Im doin the right thing and tearing it out and doin it right. I ordered floor pans from Harmons out of Indiana or Illinois i can't remember, well they arent right at all. The outside dimensions are the same but nothing else. I also ordered cab corners from LMC, and they are not right to the point the guy thats doin the body work had to work on them for 6hrs to get them right. My doors were also shot on the bottom corners, I ordered a bottom door skin for it, they sent me a flat piece of sheet metal, these doors have a contour to them. I orders kick panels too and they are so off i dont think i can even use them. Well like any person i called them to show me disatisfaction, I got a hold of a guy who was quit frank with me on somethings. heres what he said. 1. the floor pans for a 60-66 are actually the pans for a 67-72 with the stickers changed on them, they dont actually make 60-66 floor pans, you have to make them fit. 2. The dont make 60-66 cab corners, they too actually go on a 67-72 3. They dont make kick panels for 60-66 either they are for 67-72 4. None of the dimensions are the same on the rocker panels, the patch rockers are 3/16 smaller then the originals. 5. all of the panels come from the same company in Tiawan, so it doesnt matter who you order from. I just thought that i wanted everyone to know that so that maybe if everyone got mad at these people maybe they may do something about all of this ****y stuff they are sellin us. Oh and heres something good R&D in china means Redo and Duplicate not Research and Development.
Sorry to read your set-back's. Mabe HAMBer RF from Custom Truck's can relay a few other advertiser's.
Try Chevy Duty. I don't know anyone with fitment problems on their parts either. I think what you got was a salse rep that talked you into keeping the wrong parts.
Are you a member at www.67-72chevytrucks.com ? If not p*** it on over there. There are a log of 60-66 guys on there.
I bought my patch panels for the '65 I did from Brothers truck parts. They fit GREAT! It sounds like you got screwed and that the guy you talked to who was "quite frank" doesn't know his *** from the hole in his head. http://brothersonlinestore.com/departments.asp?dept=368 So it
I had the same problems with my floor patches. I caught wind of the fact that many of these patches were from 67-72 trucks, so I fabbed my own kick panels & door patches. My rockers fit O.K., but are very thin & ****py. My cab corners were very good. They came from a U.S. company, whose name I can't recall. It doesn't sound like you need this info after the fact, but if you need the source of the good cab corners, let me know & I'll look it up in my records. Take heart in the fact that patching these trucks is miserable for everyone, especially when the lower third of the door posts are bad. I think they were built with compressed rust. Misery loves company.
I've heard there are some really ****py panels, and some that fit really well--that would lead me to believe some places have the right parts, others are relabeling '67-up parts, from what you just said. Try going to Stovebolt.com as well. They have a lot of info over there. And call around and see what other sellers have to say about their parts. don't brand them all as schmucks because of this horrible experience. They may all turn out to be bad, but find out first. Thanks to you, I now know I need to ask some hard questions of suppliers when I order front floor pans and kick panels for my '62. Thank you for sharing. Brad
I got my panels from chevy duty and fabbed up some oddball pieces elsewhere on my '63 chevy. Tabco is an American company that I got my cab corners from--awesome stuff from them!
Brad not to sound too awfully negative but do you really believe that the salesman that you talk to (who just happens to be earning his living by selling you stuff) is really going to tell you that the parts you are about to order are not going to fit and in fact are not even the correct part that,"We just relabled them so you will buy them"? Ask around to you buddies and find out where they are getting their stuff and see about fitment problems. You can buy parts to rebuild the 60-66 C10. You can actually buy almost enough bits n pieces to build one from scratch. But you shouldn't be stuck with parts that don't fit, if it don't fit take it back.
Not to sound too awfully hollier-than-thou, but the company I work for puts it in our catalog that something doesn't fit as original, and when someone calls our phone sales, there are notations in the computer that say to tell the customer that something isn't an exact fit, or exact reproduction, or requires modification to work. We also have a no-h***le return policy--if you don't like the part for ANY reason, we'll pay the return freight and refund your money, no questions asked. So yeah, I do believe that there are companies out there, with sales staff earning a living by selling stuff, that will tell customers the parts don't fit like a factory piece, or that they require a lot of modification to work. When you buy, make sure you're dealing with a company that has a good reputation--ask around, get feedback from websites, and find out what their return policy is. -Brad
Sorry to burst your bubble porkn****** but you cant but almost everything for a 60-66 c-10. I have yet to find new steel hood or fleetside bedsides. The only reason I want a new hood is so that when mine is beat back out it doesnt look like a sack o nickels on the inside, but my guy doin the work ***ures me that it wont, with out the use of bondo. Also I guess i made all companies sound bad, well I have gotten chrome from Chevy Duty and it was just fine and some other odds and ends from some other people too. Its just the fact that these panels were soooo bad it was just ridiculous. Also about shipping them back, for something like two floor pans, two cab corners, rockers, kick panles, and all the cab and floor supports it was going to cost about as much as the panels to send them all back. but thanks for the places to find panels i havent heard about some of them
I work for Year One, and I've floated the idea of making us an Alliance Member, but we're heading into the busy season (TONS of shows, including a huge show we put on at Road Atlanta and the Commerce drag strip, plus monthly cruises in our parking lot), so it's low on their priority list. But I am working on them. Brad
i'll keep that in mind. the fella that owns this challenger i'm working on has been making your salary...and more to come.
I ran it the same problems with the patch panels for these cabs, nothing fits or even close.I said before if we just all quit buying this **** instead of just making it work they might decided to make something that actually fits.
