I have a couple of 55 chev rearends, I just took them apart, one has 58 guts and the other has 55,s. So there are numbers on the ring and pinion, do any of those tell me a ratio? Now I know its an old thread, and I did a search and can count the turns, I was just wanting a true number. The 58 turns three and not quite a half, more like a third, and the 55 turns three and a half. So I am guessin 3:35....and 3:55. A little help for the ignant! Thanks..

Just count the # of teeth on the ring gear and divide it by the # of teeth on the pinion........

Kustchops,Stamped near the outer O.D. of the ring gear the side that bolts to carrier, will be some numbers like 9 37,this is the pinion teeth and ring teeth.I think all GM gears are marked like this, just divide 37 by 9 and walla 4.11.Same for what ever ratio gear set you have.
