51 Caddy Rear

    Does anyone know of a ' later model' easy/direct swap for a 51 Caddy 62 series 4dr sdn rear?

    Any particular reason why you want to replace it? As I remember, it's Hell for stout and probaly already has a decent gear in it.

    Mainly because of age & wear. Also wouldn't mind a little better highway gear.

    If I remember correctly the dimensions are pretty close. You may have to relocate some of the mounting surfaces to get it fitted, so I wouldn't call it a direct swap. You will also have to use the later model drive shaft because the two are different, the early shaft will not work with the later rear end.

  5. Buddy of mine put a late model Chevy truck rearend under his 52. It was a bolt in. He didnt change a thing, and it kept the 5 on 5 bolt pattern. If you need me to I'll find out exactly what rear he used.

    wonder if there's a gearing difference from your car to my 53 because my car LOVES the highway. Cruises at 70-80mph. Hit 115 on the stock motor pretty easily as well.


    Good luck with the find. It'll be good info for me to stick in my brain if anything ever happens to mine.

    HOLDFAST, Sounds liks a fun ride (pics, please). I run a modified 500 & am trying to get a little more than 8mpg.
