There are a few Gasser threads going on with some amazing photos of neat race cars. I remember going to the drags in Fremont when I was a kid and seeing some of these beasts in anger but got interested in sports cars and road racing and forgot all about drag racing...that is until I went to the March Meet Drags last month and I realized I need to learn more about the vintage drags and the cars...so tell me: Books and web sites...anyone have any favorites on the subject? Best history books on the subject...Don Montgomery? Buying a car/racing it...where does one start? Race organizations? Good place to find a historic car? Is one class better that the other or does it matter? What exactly is a "Gasser" All info and thoughts would be great...Thanks.
I love the smell of NITRO in the morning. Just start gettting your feet wet, there's a whole lot of good times in front of you. I 've watched nitro fuelers since 1960, Can-ams in the late'60's-'70's - It's all good. Remember, you can never have too much horsepower.
Here's a good start for learning more about the NHRA gas classes from the good old days. http://gassermadness.com/
the don montgomery books are a must ....as is the larry davis gasser book ...as well as his super stock book....go to gassermadness.com for gasser info.....and awful, awful fuel altereds.....( might have to check on that one....) as for gassers......usually 10% set back on the engine......brandon
