my car could be the bondo spokes car! well, i guess not to bad, ive only got about 3/4 of a gallon into it so far pluss you sand off a bunch of what you put on anyways! well, now i remember why i dont do body work, all you body men, you dont know how much respect i have for you, my hat is off, its a dirty tetious back killing job, but it smells good. i got a few of the panels roughed in, both areas by the back window, the cowl vent area, the left lower quater, a few other areas, sill tons to go though, got to get to the doors soon to. franken deuce, hopefully the pic will show up ok! titus
When you're done with the Bondo treat yourself to a gallon of Zchrome high build primer. I helped a friend out a few months ago blocking out a front end on a '37 Studebaker. Best sanding primer I've ever worked with.
Looks GOOD to me, most of it will be coming off while sanding anyway. Good luck on the rest of the build.
On a metal car you will know when to stop sanding..sparks fly! LOTTA BONDO! that's just a little seam filler ... maybe someone will think its glass smooth ... HECK.. HENRY NEVER HAD EM AS STRAIGHT YOU'LL END UP WITH.. some body men also seem to quit and say good enuf.. so do it your way good we will have the pics to see where it started.. paperdog
heres a pic of when i got it, its come along way, all here on the hamb! i actually have to have it at a car show on the 14th, so its just going to get a coat of epoxy primer sealer for now once its all roughed in, then maybe next winter ill finish the process, or sooner, ya never know, but im sure ill be burnt out on sanding by monday. jeff
see ya at gsta o and gramma made crazy quilts in your patch metal pattern only not stiched so gooder paperdog
damn it jeff I wish I had time to come down and help you- DAMN IT. maybe I can kick in when we get to the surfacer stage- I have lots of experience - we can get that thing as straight as a pin and paint it BLACK. Looks good Jeff. I think you're rad. Tuck
Tuck, thats the way it works all, you got imortant business to take care of and that #1! ill let you know when i get to that point Tuck. i was thinking dark green, or some ugly stock 1932 ford color. jeff
When your done practicing I'll drop off my 5w and you can slice the top on it. No hurry, I bought the thing in 1973 and I've put about a half mile on it since. Actually I've pushed it further than I"ve driven it. Frank
Frank, if you 32 comes here it aint going back!! I got a bunch more done tonight, no pics thou, i got the roof pretty well roughed in, got one door mostly done also, and some posts on the chop here and there, i got of work early to go to work at home! from 1:30 till 10:00 i was applying and sanding bondo, oh and a dinner break. jeff
Looking good Jeff, I've been doing the same thing to my '56 this winter and I'll tell you I don't want to do it again (but probably will), too much work, I like putting them together and then letting someone else do the body work.
Looks damn good man.... A high profiler builder told me, and I quote... "do your best, mud the rest"....I will not say who he was...
most people don't understand that bondo is needed for a really straight car...unless you want to spend 10k in high build primer and 5k in sand paper...
It's great to see that your making great progress. Do you plan to finish it all the way someday? It has a great look, and I look forward to seeing it at the GSTA show...next week!
I don't know if you are using "Bondo" brand? I used it for years...cheap at Walmart. Then I ran out last week but bought Evercoat Chrome-a-lite at a closer store. This stuff does not stay sticky like the Bondo, and I hardly use up any sandpaper like before. I can't believe the difference. It was $17 a gallon.
I remember what it looked like at the Pileup a couple years ago, you remember the squishing incicent. It's coming along nice, keep up the good work. Now If you don't have time for the 36 I will be happy to get it out of your way.
Gonna have it at GSTA .. nice.. wish i could make that show. have to be in Grand Forks that weekend though. Gonna make the 50's though!
the 36 is just fine where it is, just waiting for some parts to come in off of BACK ORDER for it. yes i remember the crunching incedent. im using some 3m lightweight filler. i do plan to finish it.......someday.....like the rest of my projects thanks guys jeff
I agree with you it is a slow process but well worth it at the end. What brand of bondo are you using? One thing I learned was to use Platnuim brand bondo. It sands so much better, spreads better, and saves more time. It does cost a little bit more than your other brands, but you save money on buying less sand paper.
