A kingpin replacement hone or set to do the spindles on '29 Dubble A truck. I've just gotten the '46 front axle and want to remove the spindles and put'em on my Dubble A axle. I've got access to the skill and know-how to do it, but the problem is they no longer have a kingpin hone.

Does anyone around here (Tulsa area) have a honing kit I could beg, borrow, steal, or rent to do these 2 spindles?

    OR

Is there anyone around the Tulsa area who works for BEER or FOOD that can help me out with doing this swap job?

I'd be forever (well, maybe not forever) in your debt and can be counted on in the future for use of a strong back and weak mind, or the gratuitous use of my truck and car trailer. Or, I've got 2 ex-wives I'd give you in trade.

    Thanks - I hope!

Any automotive machine shop should be able to install the bushings and pin-fit the bushings to the pins. A thumb-press fit is ideal.

  3. I've usually seen them reamed to fit rather than honed...is that a possibility? Machine shops generally have, or can get, reamers more easily....Enco is one source.

You can keep the ex-wives. :D

I'm in tulsa also, and was not able to find one worth using. Most things that I looked into all pointed me into the same direction. Take it to a machine shop and have them hone it with a long "wrist pin" style hone. or some called it a line boar. Call Allen lemons at 918-288-7066 and ask him who he uses. He knows his **** when it comes to suspensions.

I've got access to a cranky, dirty old man (my dad) who has the shop and knowledge to do this for me. He just doesn't have the reamer/hone bushing installation kit to do it with. Otherwise, we've got no problems with doing it.

Machine shop did mine and installed new bushings in my 37 spindles. I put them on the axle myself...no big deal. The cost was about $100 (shop is a little higher than most) and they fit perfect.

I don't think you want someone grabbing a hand held drill and going after you spindles, it's got to be perfect and I sure wouldn't want someone doing it that had been drinking and free labor is worth every bid of what you pay for it. Live and learn.

Here is what you need. Spend the money on tools so you can do it again.

    This one on on ebay.

I did my axle but a kingpin would be no different.
