Been thrashing to get my 48 back into a state of assembly that will allow me to put it on a trailer in a month or two when I tow it across country to its new home.. Since my last post I have gotten the front susp completely in and the rearend flipped on top of the springs (this is temp until I get the trailing arms and bags).. Dropped a bbc and T400 tranny into it (OK crammed) and just got the front sheet metal rehung to see the difference.. (final stance may be another inch lower but will know know until I make a decision on tires and wheels) Here are a few update shots before after MII install these were not made for big motors (not happy with the size of the hole in the firewall but it was required as I had to set the motor back and over the crossmember before it could sit down into position ). I will do something nicer once I get to Seattle with it.. Will have plenty of rainy winter months to find a good solution I will have to get a better side shot later
I like the stance. I had to cut my firewall up as much as you did just to get my small block mopar to fit.
COOL,,funny thing is,,, i was out in the garage tonight chillin after some work,,flipping through a mag and saw a woodie,,,and thought about yours and whats been up with it,,LOOKS BITCHIN<<,,im surre it will be killer,,, this board moves so fast now there is alot that gets missed out on, anyways,,hear your moving back to the west coast,,,congrats! and GOOD LUCK out there!
Looks like a really cool project and I'm looking forward to seeing more photos. I think you're going to like the pacific northwest. We lived in Oregon for a couple of years and you'll find the people to be quite different than those on the east coast. We lived in a small beach town and I'm certain that everyone had some story about how they ended up there.... escaping a spouse, running from johnny law, or just ran out of money while traveling. I had a 62 Jeep Wagoneer at the time and loved taking it out for a drive on the beach with our dogs in the morning mist and a hot cup of coffee.
sweet - big block chevy looking good. I checked out your pics on the site. Looks like a good project with the front suspension. Looking forward to seeing progress.
Looks good, I can't wait to see it once you move up this way. By the way, there's a junkyard here in town with at least one if not more of the panel trucks of that body style if you're looking for parts.
Tudor, front will sit that way all the time (on springs) but the rear will have airbags on top of the trailing arms. I have not gotten the rear down where I want it (about another 2") but since I will be loading it full of shit when I move, I thought it was OK.. in the future for normal driving it sit lower but with bags I can lower it (to with in 1/2" of tire hitting wood) or raise it a few inches when hauling folks, parts or a trailer behind it.. but much like my wagon, it will be on the ground with a rake.. The downside to this style woodie is the lack of room up inside the fender like a Ford or chevy would have.. these have the equivalent of a boat trailer fender (can only tuck about 2" or so inside fender
Mazda... leaning towards a dark blue metallic (a late 90's bmw color that almost looks black in the right light) since it was originally blue and I am not aware of any of the 10-12 remaining being blue.. but I will not really know until I get further along..
Just saw this and the moving to seattle post. good to see someone is getting a mopar on the road. I'm sorry to hear your headin west. I hope to see you out that way one day.
