Hey Gang, I found this 1950 Hudson Super Six near me. The car runs, is complete, and has the 308 cubic inch engine with the dual carb "Twin H" option. The brakes need to be gone through but the guy has a full rebuild kit for the brakes - he said he spent $500 at Kantor on the kit. I haven't seen it in person yet, but I am trying to arrange a visit next weekend if the car hasn't been sold. He's asking $3750 - Is this a good deal? This body style looks like it would be ideally suited to be a tail dragging mild custom - is this indeed the case? Is there anyhting that a personm needs to pay close attention to when looking at Hudsons? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Thor
I've always liked those Step-down Hudsons. If it is as good as it looks in the pictures...I'd be awfully tempted to buy it!
if that car was near me i would be all over it, i have wanted a four door for awhile now though. it loooks really solid in the pictures and if as good as it looks in person and it runs then thats a pretty smokin deal, although i am very partial to Hudsons
It needs some eyelids in the windshield to make it complete!! And a gruff sounding voice that sounds like Cool Hand Luke.
That looks like a 51. As far as I know, (I'm no expert though) '50s still had the small back window. In '50, Hudson offered 3 motors, the 254 inline 8, the 232 and 262 inline 6's. The 308 didn't appear until '51. Either way, the thing looks clean. Even 4 door Hudsons have started bringing good money. Look for rust in the perimeter frame, specifically behind the front wheels, the top of the rear wheel opening, and around the back behind the wheel wells. Check for rust in the rear corners of the trunk floor too, right at the curve in the rear. Good luck.
What Hudsoncustom said. What trans is in it? stick?OD? definitely cool. I've got a 49 sedan w/308,twin-H. Drives great but its all over at 55 mph without the overdrive. Hidden rust is the biggest issue cause its structural. Spend some time over here getting up to speed on the stepdowns.http://www.classiccar.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13 Good Luck.
Guys, Exchanged a few more emails with the owner and he sent some photos of the bottom side and interior. It looks pretty good underneath - it's not perfect but the guy seems like he's being a straight shooter. I'm going to try to see it this weekend if I can work it out with the owner. I'll take some photos for you guys when I look at it. Hey Ramblur - the car has the stock 3 speed with overdrive. Later, Thor
If its not rusty "look in the areas hudsoncustom said as he nailed it" its worth all of that. It is probably a 51 but states did weird things with car "birthdays" I got a hudson and love it sweet driving car! LTR Dave
Guys, Was looking forward to taking a look at the car tomorrow around noon. The owner just sent me an email to tell me that as of late this afternoon the Hudson has been sold. A fellow stopped by with money and a trailer. Damn!! Story of my life...a day late and a dollar short! Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be and the search will continue. Thor
Well that sucks but there are plenty around if you look, it is tough to find a good one for the right price. LTR Dave
Just remember rust never sleeps, so check it out close up and good luck. It sounds like a good deal and it makes an awesome kustom.
Here are some pics of a Hudson that the owners of National Tattoo Supply (and good friend) had Rick Dore build for them. This was based off of some sketches done by Harry Bently Bradley a few years ago. The lines of these Hudson is just right for a cool tail dragger At the Grand National Roadster Show Good Guys (Pleasenton I think) Rick Dore and Flo Makovsky
Don't get your hopes down too much, if you really want one try Bill Albright at Vintage Coach in Fontana Ca. 909-823-9168 he has a shit pile of step downs and parts. Also post a wanted add on the Classic car / Hudson forum. Good luck, Joe
